IRay HDR Luminance plus Iray questions

Thought I'd give IRay a try. I set up scene with Genesis Echo, add skydome, apply Tropical beach IBL. The more I increase Luminance, HDR background begins to disappear. How do I increase lighting while retaining HDR background ? I've seen many users claiming to use just HDR as lighting/background. Background is still perfectly visible. In Luxrender I render using Alpha channel. Is it same for DS Iray ? Attached image to illustrate, what I'm describing.

The skydome will not work with Iray unless you turn it into an emitter (there's a tutorial in Flipmode's Skybox thread towards the end for that).
For the HDRI as Background, gpo to Render Settings, go to Envirionment subsection, and select "Draw Dome" ON.
If you have any specific HDRI you want to use as background, you can change the image in "Environment" as well. Just replace the default HDR image with the one you wish to use.

EDIT: Here's a thread that explains the usage of HDRI: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/828419/
It deals with different ways, so it's worth reading to the end.
    And here's Flipmode's post: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/825330/
This is for Skyboxes, but it basically works the same for Skydomes.

EDIT 2: For luminence, a good starting point is 45.000 units, except for distant lights, where you have to go down to 10-15 units. Also, when you use a skydome, using distant lights is no use, a the skydome will block off its light.
