IRAY - amazing, but cant find documentation

Having searched the net and the forums, I've found a few tutorials and some specific help points, but I can't find any meaningful documentation.

I suppose I could ask about each parameter as I experiment, but is there anything that goes into what all these parameters mean?

I'm sorry to bother here, but the reference guide in general is rather a joke.

The available documentation is strongly in need of improvement. Almost all important points are WIP or without really useful information. Well, since how long? But it seems to me that DAZ has no interest in a suitable and detailed documentation for the users.

A complex software like DAZ Studio needs a good documentation from the developers, especially for a public production version and especially for newbies who are no professionals. Actually it can not be that users have a lot to experiment to find out how what works and what it does. Or have to search in hundreds of forum threads and external websites for helpful informations. This is hindering and at some point leads to lose the fun, because you have more to do with trial and error than to come to practical results. It's not everyone's thing to spend a lot of time with this. I think a "normal" user wants to work and not "fumble around" and search the whole day. :red:

No offence meant, but a so called reference guide should be a central technical documentation in detail but not a permanent large construction site with only sparse content. ;-)

It is difficult to finalise documentation until the beta itself was finalised and made into an actual release. but as Richard said there is a lot of documentation already available

I threw this up on my One Drive a while back... It's for 3ds Max, but it has pictures for all the settings that are in DAZ which are really useful.

Sorry, where is this "a lot"? Surely not in the reference guide what's online. Have you read what I wrote? And have you understood this? Excuse me, guaranteed not.

And don't come somebody with telling me that all is new in 4.8. There are enough settings that have not changed since 4.5. And not documented yet? Since more than 2 years?

Shamed be he who thinks evil of it...

Thanks! This is really useful! :-)
(Now, if I'd be able to find out what "Nominal Lumimance" in the rendeer settings is good for....)

Unfortunately, most of the Documentation looks like this:

    Try this:

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/56788/

Chances are you will find info that will never be in docs, such as tips on how to set up scenes and materials as users are sharing information. Official docs are fine for the basics but won't replace the actual experience being shared in these threads.

The problem with the threads is that the information is all over the place, instead of being quickly accessible on one place.
Don't get me wrong, the threads are a great resource, and I wouldn't have learned as much about Iray as I did, without everyone contributing.
It would be great if at least something like the Bloom Filter description would be available for all the new functions
    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/new_features/start#render_settings_pane

    Bloom Filter

Iray Photoreal includes a built-in filter to roughly approximate a bloom/glare effect. Essentially the bloom effect is a fake feathering effect the human eye and camera lens create when light hits specific angles on an object. Bloom effect is an interpretation of the world rather than true physical and calculable light. Since HDR image environment mapping creates an environment based on calculations, the bloom effect will need to be added to give an Iray-rendered scene the illusion of realism.

Bloom Filter used three categories to create the bloom effect: Threshold, Radius, and Brightness Scale. Threshold controls how much energy hits a specific portion of an object, which will create the bloom effect. Radius controls the radius of pixels a bloom will cover—the larger the radius, the larger and more blurred the bloom effect will be. Brightness Scale controls how bright the bloom effect appears. Altering one category can significantly change the bloom effect's look.

But the explanation is already missung for the Noise filter functions, or the Pixel filter.

It's extremely frustrating to not be able to look up the basic information easily. I don't know how many hours I've spent googling around the web (and still haven't found out what the blasted "Nominal Lumiance" setting isabout!)...

Even Paolo had the wherewithal to include a detailed user guide with every version of Reality since its introduction.
