Creating a Pink Streak in Hair?

Hi. I'm trying to come up with a solution to create a version of the braided hair as a wet/hair down version. 

I've tried to edit existing hair textures but barely managed to create sparse pink highslights in the hair. I've also tried to create hair using the strand hair creator but I had to use two different created hair assets, try to style them the same and style them with each  new pose. 

Is there a way to isolate a 1 and 1/2" strand of hair in an existing hair texture and get the effect I'm going for?

    You could try using the Geometry Editor to select the plygons you want to change, assuming the boundaries fall in a helpful position, then right-click>Geometry Assignment>Create Surface From Selected. Once you have a surface you can apply a light colour material tot hat (apply the base shader used and copy/patse settings from the rest of the hair since material presets won't apply) and tweak as needed.
