Few weeks ago, officials from daz3d spoke about some special offers of nVidia hardware with the Daz 4.8 launch.
This is also actually the NVidia 980 Ti launch period, wich should be a superb iRay render hardware.

So, I ask you daz3D: will you offer us some special price for nVidia CUDA/Iray hardware?

Where was that announcement? Must've missed it completely...

we read it in the daz 4.8 forum, some times ago, written by the daz3D staff

It wasn't actually an announcement. One of the DAZ_Guys just said they were trying to work something out. No definite "It will happen" statement

    probably
but the goal here is to know if we actually will have something ;-)

I was in the office at DAZ3D while they were discussing it. Unfortunately, because of NDAs between all parties involved, discussions are limited. I'm taking this approach, "no news is good news". ;)

I bought a 970 as well, shortly after 4.8 went into beta. But I also got the Witcher 3 free with it and it's a good card, so I'm not complaining :)

    *edit*
although the new card comes with the new batman game for free which those have been really good games...

well it could be "buy a $1000 GTX titan and get 25% off any Daz bundle when you spend $99"
anything on this side thimbles between the ashtrays and the bicentennial glasses, it includes the chiclets but not the erasers.

actually there was some thought to the Taiwan trade show this week where Nvidia would drop prices if a new line of cards came out.
I haven't seen that yet and I'm reading some of the 4GB cards from NV don't necessarily see all 4GB which might be a problem.

yep, 970 & 980 gtx only see 3.5GB (0.5 for OS GUI usage)

and yep there has been a tiny price drop on 980GTX already (-50USD) wich is now 499$ due to the launch of the 980Ti (if i remember well price 649USD, making it at minimum 750eur in europa with tax)

I was expecting something like : nvidia 980Ti special daz offer at -20% (making it to 600/650 eur with tax in europa)

I'm getting round this, on my next pc, by using a 730 card to drive the screen with a 970 for Iray to play with all on its own.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

if the 970 and 980 are beings sold as 4GB cards but only have 3.5GB available I'm holding off for more than just now.

    Greetings,

IIRC, it's just the 970, and it has 4GB, but .5GB is on a separate data bus, so access slows down a lot when a scene or game crosses the 3.5GB size level.

The 970's took a deep price cut due to this, which makes them pretty attractive, actually, as cores * memory goes.

They both have 4GB and can use 4GB

What is an issue, is that the 970 as 3.5GB fast ram and 0.5GB slower ram. Some info about that here

My 970 came with (or will come with) Arkham Knight, so I am not complaining too much... Other than the potential time sink in the future.

what did you update from? I'm looking at the GTX 960
Have you thrown anything at it that it couldn't handle? Is it fast and do you like the quality of the renders?

The 970 has NOT taken deep price cuts. It's pretty close to the same price when I bought mine last Nov...$369. Also, the 970 has that 3.5 issue. If it didn't, it would be dang near a 980. All of us who bought the 970, thought that's what we were getting for a much cheaper price.

Fyi... If you do the CUDA/Price comparison, a pair of 970s is a better investment than a single 980.

    my grain of salt:
If you add up all costs, 2 x 970 is not that much cheaper than a...980 ti ;-)
Why? you have to buy a bigger PSU (for 2 GPU), your gear will be louder, will eat a lot more power, will have 2 times the chance of breakdown,...
well, I know, I'm exagerating just a bit, but think about it...

I have an asus strix 970 - completely silent and when rendering too. Now a second one would make a difference, but I'm considering a Ti as it has 6GB of memory.

And there is perhaps a greater chance of breakage - perhaps, but losing 50% of the cards rendering ability when one of two cards goes down is better than 100%.

Sure, two 970 use more power than one 980 Ti, but folks balance what the can.

Waiting for AMD; their new card 'might' affect the price of NVidia cards, and if not then no harm in waiting. I get to keep my cash a little longer. :)

Don't forget that CUDA is proprietary nVidia technology, so an AMD card will not do anything with Iray.

Wait, Arkham Knight comes with a free Video Card?!!

Never mind!! Buying the Card comes with the game.
