Merge geometry question

Hi. I've got several primitives I'd like to merge using the Geometry Editor. Sometimes I get the error "This action requires a selected TriAx figure in the scene, with geometry and one or more followers." I presume that means I have to convert the primitive objects into TriAx figures, but when I do that, the primitives' scale and morphs go haywire. I recognize the shapes they revert to as being an earlier stage of design, but I can't possibly remember all the tweaks I did to them between whatever stage that was and now.  Is there a convenient way to restore or counteract whatever the conversion process does to them?

Is it safe to assume the error means the followers also have to be TriAx figures?

If you just want to turn a bunch of items into a single, static object the solution would be export as OBJ and reimport, using the same preset in both directions (probably the Daz Studio one). Merge geoemtry is for creating a compound figure, I think - it's not a feature I have ever used.
