Clean low-light renders in iray

So i've been able to take a "poorly" lit scene and using the tone mapping settings make it viable. However, the thing I haven't been able to do is to make a good low light scene, something at night for instance.

It seems I can make the whole scene bright, or i can render for a good 10000 cycles and it's still dark and somewhat grainy around the lights. Does anyone have any tips/tricks for getting a render to actually stay low-light?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi,

These 2 settings work for me.

Render settings > Editor > Tone_mapping "Crush Blacks" set to 0 (zero).

Any light source close to geometry will cause noise. Set "Render settings > Editor > Optimization" > "Caustic Sampler" to "On"
