How do I know that is compatible with 4.15

Since almost every product now is only compatible with 4.20 (sarcastic), how do I know what products to purchase that are compatible with 4,15?

Even the oldest stuff lists only 4.20 as compatible software. https://www.daz3d.com/basic-hair

Because of this, I ended up buying something which really is not compatible with 4.15.

I have absolutely no plans to upgrade anytime soon, and it feels like Daz is trying to force me to upgrade. The last time I upgraded, some of my assets stopped working. When I contacted support, they were absolutely no help at all.. In fact the dude pi$$ed me off enough for me quit using Daz Studio for a almost a year and purchased Poser LOL

So..... how do I know what I can buy?

What did you buy that wasn't compatible with 4.15? To my knowledge, the only products that won't work with 4.15 are the PBRSkin shader on 8.1 characters and volumetric rendering.

    What did you buy?

Volumetric models require DS 4.20 but as far as I know, everything else works with DS 4.15

I’m using 4.14 beta and the PBR skin shaders work fine. At least I think they they do. I always have to tweak them because to me they don’t look as good as iRay Uber but they’re not THAT bad that they don’t seem compatible.

G8.1 and PBRSkin shader were the ones that required DS 4.15 (or some DS 4.14 beta version), Volumetric rendering requires DS 4.20

PBR skin shaders work fine but I try not to use them because they take long to load and are heavy.

I bought Iray Ghost Light Kit One which only works with 4.20. It was only a couple of bucks so it wont break my wallet if I just keep it, but the point is I dont know what is compatible with 4.15 unless it`s an old product.

Im petty sure some newer stuff is compatible, but there is no way of telling which ones are.

Ghost lights... Nvidia changed how the ghost lights work between 4.15 and 4.20, and whether they work on DS 4.15, depends on if the PA already updated the product for DS 4.20 or not.

Im not really worried about ghost lights. Before I bought Ghost light One today, I already had Iray Ghost Light Kit and Iray Ghost Light Kit 2. They still work fine in 4.15. And I dont really use them much.

What I am worried about For example ,When I upgrded from 4.12 to 4.15, UltraScenery became sluggish and heavy that I went from using it almost daily to not using it at all. I dont want to go through that with 4.20. Im in the "if it aint broke, dont fix it" camp.

I only want to know what products I can purchase for 4.15.

I just dont get why they removed the older versions from the software compatibility lists from products that we already know is compatible with previous versions of Daz Studio, other than to push us to upgrade to 4.20

In general, if one looks at the date when the product was released and what was the current version of DS at the time, that is the oldest version it works with, unless the product was updated at some point and/or the later versions of DS were changed laughcheeky

Where on the DAZ site does it tell you on what date products  were released.  What is the cut-off date?  GenX products work with some versions of Studio and not with others.  Now we have new NEW Mac OS to contend with.

I would like DAZ have compabilities information just like what Blender Market have . But I know it would need the store admin re- assign those tags into each product . It will takes times, but if they start doing now , maybe next year we can see those option ?  Not sure why they didnt do that in first place .

When DAZ 5 released , those information will be needed by user who opt to keep working in previous version . Not just because they dont want to upgrade the hardware stuff , but for someone who always in middle of projects  upgrading before finishing the project is BIG NO

And I dont believe  with asking customer to find some information  just like release date - ID number etc will encouraging people to doing quick buy

In my experience DAZ wants to focus on compatibility with the latest version which is why it only says compatible with the latest version on the product page and there are no older versions for download.. So if a user decides not to move to the latest version, then any issues is on them. For the record, I am still on 4.15. Awhile back (4 years) I bought a product that didn't work with the version I was on and support basically told me I had to upgrade, hence my experience. I then got a refund and keep doing what i was doing for another year and then moved up to the latest version after all the bugs were worked out.
