Riversoft Auto-Fill light not working in HDRI scene

Hello -

Even after ensuring that Dome and Scene is selected, and creating my outdoor ghost fill light and adding the appropriate material in Lighting Designer, the auto-fill light has no effect on the scene. Only the HDRI lights the scene. The documents do not address this sort of troubleshooting. I wonder if anyone might have encountered this issue.

Thank you.

I'm not familiar with that product, but I've found that outdoor scenes lit by typical "daytime" HDRI skydomes are very bright.  A light typically used for interiors can be overwhelmed by the HDRI.

Try setting the fill light to a very high value:  if it's in in Lumens, for instance, try setting it to 1,500,000 just to see if it begins to take effect.   If the product is a mesh object (plane, sphere, etc.) with an Emissive setting, you'll find the value to set by looking at the Surfaces tab with the fill light object selected in your scene -- look for a set of parameters under "Emissive".

If it's a modified spotlight, point light or whatever, select the light in the Scene pane and use the Light parameters to adjust.

That said, if the fill light is what's called a "ghost light" -- a primitive object with the opacity set very low ( like, .00001 and similar) then new rules apply with recent releases of DAZ studio and Iray.   Check the forums for posts about "Ghost Lights".

    Best of luck,

    Olo

I've turned the dome completely off and set to Scene Only to test, and the fill light is definitely doing nothing at all. And it doesn't respond at all to changes in luminence, which is really odd. Sadly, the most important tool in this product is ghost lights, which indeed don't seem to work for whatever reason.

Which version of Daz Studio and which version of Ghost Lights.

The old Ghost Light does not work in DS 4.20.

I have 4.20. It's beyond frustrating to waste good money on products that are not compatible with evolving iterations of DAZ, especially without a way of knowing that in advance.

Well, it is NVidia that develops Iray, and they considered it a big fix.

The PA had no clue either. He has 3 Ghost Lights product, and are updating them to the new version, and offer a nice discount for buyers of the ols product. Only the first had hit the store yet.

There is a lenghty discussion in the Commons.

Are you sure that you have iray environment settings to Dome and Scene?

Yes. I even switched to Scene Only to isolate the ghost light. It does not work.

I would recommend you read the loooong series of posts about ghost lights and their changed behavior here:  Ghost Lights - What's happening, and what's next. - Daz 3D Forums

There are things you can do now to get your current product working, and there are some vendors that are updating their ghost light-based products to work with the newest Iray functionality.

I completely understand your frustration, but there are solutions available that should allow you to get going, again.
