Yes, it does belong in a museum! ;)
You're missing a lot of amazing tech with our hobby, not to mention you missed out on a lot of excellence of the Internet, as all the great video/image sites for years have been taken over by adverts, bots and AI algorithms; I miss the Internet of 2001-2007/2010-2012, it was a magical place, now it's like downtown Seattle...
(EDIT: I put in the date range for better context)
It started out with enough character to base a TV series and book deal off of, but wouldn't sell out either, now it's nothing but high-end retail and condos.
EDIT: Sorry, I should have considered that you may have a larger portion of your life outside the computer and this hobby!
_ and have seen both - - Do'nt let them spin And it really wo'nt hurt if they spin
idk which is correct _ Thanx
Your replies crack me up! Thanks for that.![yes yes](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/thumbs_up.png)
...I remember using Netscape Navigator and an acoustic modem to get on what was the Net of the mid 90s
yeah.. back then I was lucky enough to have snagged a "High SPeed" modem from work (needed it to dial into the system for support work.) it was 2400 baud.. and I was runing an OS/2 system too...
I understand they would generate some electricity like mini turbine but it would need to spin pretty fast and be sending that power somehere and surely there are capacitors, resisters inbetween it and the power source, it won't charge your PSU
if not sending power to something it shouldn't heat up, but I am no electrical engineer ![cheeky cheeky](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/tongue_smile.png)
Too many ambitious electrons with motivation are always a potential problem.
Lazy electrons are safer.
Egad.
Too funny.
But I gotta say, It will be very hard to commissorate with you when Daz version 5.xx comes out and it isn't compatable with your rig.
Povray, IO, SCSI, etc. Now those were Names to conjure Dark Forces with!
And they required very high-level Wizards, spouting furious arcana, to bind them under some semblance of control.
Control? Who am I kidding.
Back in the '80s & '90s I used to cast spells of SED, GREP, and VI like sparks from my fingers. God like, with blurred fingers, maniacal laughs, and smoke.
I dabbled in the arcane art of MVS Assembler for a bit..
I love the six foot long tube so that you aren't in the blast zone in case dust bats fly out of there... I can picture you (well, not necessarily an accurate version of you... a generic bipedal humanoid presumably) wearing a full hazmat suit while you were doing that.
Seriously I hope whatever caused that accumulation of dust is not in any way something your lungs are exposed to with any frequency.
Neither. It should be on a rubbish tip, or in a skip.

...for myself it was AOS/VS CLI.
I've seen worse. Much, much worse.
Wow if your PC was a human they'd be in college now!
Meh.. I've got underwear older than that.
Pfft, I'm still using the underwear that I inherited from my grandparents.
It was, I did mostly Mars renders because there was no vegitation to slow it down. Still got the CD but no PC with a drive in. Might try and get it running for old time's sake. Was meaning to build something retro out of the parts box, might be a decent excuse.
Since we are on the subject of dust, I was wondering about something...
Does anyone here have an EVGA graphics card with the little "e" logos embossed all across the surface of the fan blades?
When I was looking at cards recently I noticed that all EVGA cards have that.
One- that seems an incredibly stupid idea to have a raised bump on a fan blade as it probably hampers efficient air flow across the blade and create drag and chaotic airflow...
Two- would seem the perfect place for dust to collect... Often when I've cleaned other people's computers, I've noticed considerable amounts of dust collected on the leading edges of the blades... Even when people do clean their computers occasionally, I've noticed the leading edges of the fan blades get neglected... (to be honest, most people in general seem to ignore the fans a bit)...
I'm imagining that each of those little "e" bumps would collect dust on its leading edge, and add even more drag and inefficiency to the fan impeller possibly ending in premature failure of the motor or card.
I'm wondering if anyone has noticed if there is more dust collection on these EVGA fans?
As far as cleaning fans, I like to use a grounded fine artist's brush to carefully remove the accumulation on all the fans in any computer I'm cleaning... the grounding (jerryrigged grounding strap) is probably overkill, but since it has a metal ferrule, at least covering that part with masking tape makes it a bit safer.
In general it's a good practice as the OP mentioned, to immobilize the fan when blowing it out... I generally use a long thin bamboo BBQ skewer carefully inserted between the blades near the hub to do that.
I just lick them clean. Tastes like powered chicken.![indecision indecision](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/whatchutalkingabout_smile.png)
Disclaimer: I'm not a good judge of taste.
Powered chicken?... Battery or Solar?... or those old coal ones?... Coal powered chickens should only be used outdoors... the fumes are noxious and can lead to black lung disease or other steampunk maladies... that, or you meant "Powdered"... in which case I'm picturing an industrial chicken pulverizer in your kitchen spewing out chicken dust.
I am imagining them dusting themselves with baby powder like a renaissance wig wearer
...better than Powdered Toast?

Oops, here's the "d" I forgot. It's your's now. Use it wisely. Although, a "t" will do in a pinch, but they're not the same.
