Best way to save modified character or object for future use?

Suppose I have loaded a character and applied various morphs or textures.
Or suppose I have edited the material zones on a prop.
I know I can save them as a Scene Subset so that I can load them later, but I'm wondering: is this the best way to do this? Or is there a better way (e.g. so that DAZ treats them as a new character or prop rather than a set).

If you want you can use File>Save As>Support Assets>Figure/prop Asset - but bear in mind that this will break the link with the original, so new morphs for the original will not be available to the new figure for example, and of course it isn't new as far as licenses are concerned so you could not share the asset with others.
Props: If you have truly edited the material zones {gave them different places on the mesh} - then File > Save As > .... figure/prop file to a DIFFERENT location than the original sits.
Props: If you have just changed the colours and textures to be different, then File > Save As > ... Material preset.
For the character, I go with Scene Subsets. Or again, one can save out material presets and/or shaping presets. There is a character preset however you want to be careful of selected settings. The last thing anybody needs are full duplicates of every morph in the system with each character save!
..same here as sometimes minor morph adjustments need to be made when posing and particularly using stock poses.
When I said "editing the material zones", I meant using geometry editor to create new surfaces, so I can then apply more complex textures or shaders. E.g. this edit to the Bloodstone Sword where I've created a whole series of new surfaces along the edge, so I can apply successively brighter emissive values.
When I tried File>Save As>Support Assets>Figure/prop Asset it didn't save the modified version, just the original. (And worse, I somehow caused the edited sword in the scene to revert to its original form (which I then saved, thinking the only changed I had made were to camera positions), so I've now lost all the edits I made).
