Folders take a few moment before showing up it's content

My folders sometimes need a quite long time before showing up it's content.
It bothers me, because I don't know whether it's empty or loading.

Anyone knows why? Or how to fix this?

    It has to load the thumbnails, so if there are a lot of files that can take a while.

    If using the Content Pane, clicking in the area one expects to find the thumbnails encourages it to refresh.
