G8.1 I'm Behind the curve

Okay. I've picked up a number of the new DAZ base characters. I generally like the morphs, even if I'm not always sold on the "themes". But none of them matched my current library of characters so I haven't yet tried to do a lot of dial spinning with them.

Imagine my surprise when I loaded one of the new bases, went to the shaping tab, and couldn't find even basic adjustments like 'proagating scale'.

Am I correct in my belief that the Genesis 8 head and body morph packages have been updated to extend these basic adjustments to G8.1?

If not, *are* there basic head and body morph packages for G8.1. If so, what are they called, for I certainly don't recall seeing them offered and a store search only brings up the packages for G8.

All the morphs for Genesis 8 work on 8.1, including propagating scale, so you'll need the Genesis 8 head and body morph pkgs.

And at least DS version 4.15 or higher so that 8.1 can read 8.0's morph files.

Okay, that is probably the issue. My prefered version is 4.12. I've got 4.15 but don't use it very often. I'll try again with that version.

Are you able to install the current Beta 4.20.1.43 some improvements have been made that I have found really helpful in a number of areas? I am using it on a Win 10, 1080, 32gb and a Win 10, 1080ti, 64gb.

Moving to 4.15 fixed the issue.  But I got a couple of really weird things turn up during the process. The figure, Necromancer 8.1, is stated on the store page as having Iray presets. As *only* having Iray presets.

In 4.12, when I went to the surfaces tab, his surfaces showed 3DL materials. I didn't think to re-check that in 4.15, but I think I need to. If they *are* 3DL, then I'm very happy since I *use* 3DL. But I think it's a glitch.

From what I can see, he has Iray textures only.

Well, I loaded the figure, tried a conversion, everything went white, and undid it. The textures all returned, but the conversion appears to have taken, because the surfaces all show 3DL settings, and I rendered in 3DL without a hitch.

I didn't have the surfaces tab open when I tried the conversion, so I'm flying blind on the whole experience. But for what it's worth, I'm now satisfied.

I believe Gen8.1 is backward compitable with 99% Gen8.0 morph(other than expressions) but Gen8.0 is not forward competiable with 8.1

G8.1 figures will load morphs made for G8 (provided you use at least DS4.15), as G8.1 figures are setup so DS reads morphs from both G8 and G8.1 "data" directories when loading a G8.1 figure. But yes G8 standard expression controls will be disabled.

G8 figures will not load morphs made specifically for G8.1 and stored in the G8.1 "data" directory as DS reads morphs only from the G8 "data" directory when loading a G8 figure.
