DAZ to 3dVR pipeline?

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a Oculus(Meta) Quest 2 and enjoying it so much. Now, I'm wondering if there's any way to make

1. 3d vr image (pre rendered in DAZ iray)

2. 3d vr movie (also pre rendered in DAZ)

which can be viewed from my oculus quest 2. Any kind of suggestions, or tutorial links are appreciated!

note: when I say "3dvr" I mean stereoscopic ones

I've been wondering this two. You can use the 360 camera in iray, but it doesn't seem to be 3d only 360. It looks cool still on the Quest.

this is quite easy to do. although can take a lot of time because you need to render each eye seperatly. And there are several ways to do this for example with either one or two camera's.

A easy way with using one camera:

    DAZ:

    - Set up you're scene with a 360 camera (or you can use a product like  Small World Camera 360 | Daz 3D )

    - Set the renders size to 1:1 (for example 3000 : 3000)

    - in te camera paramaters select "lens" -> set the "lens Stereo Offset (mm) to -32.5

Render the left image and save it

    -  in te camera paramaters select "lens" -> set the "lens Stereo Offset (mm) to 32.5

Render the right image and save it

Now you need to stitch both images together in a photo editor. An easy and free to use tool is for example StereoPhoto maker.

After that you can open it in a viewer as a 360 photo (Left/right)

A video works almost in the same way, render the video 2x with above mentioned lens offset (image series), stitch every frame together (stereoPhoto maker has a batch option).

Some tips (or cheats), to cut down the render times:

    - Render with a minimal max samples ( 500 ~ 1000) and use a (external) denoiser. i prefer intel's denoiser tool for each image.

    - Render in al low resolution (for example 1500:1500) and use a upscaler like gigapixel ai to blow them up to decent resolution

-For a video, render in a low FPS (like 20 ~ 25 FPS) and interpolate to 60 FPS. i prefer SVFI interpolater (on steam)

Wow, thanks for your advice! I'll try it straight away! I assume that you could make a VR movie in exactly the same way..! have you ever tried it?

  • May I use this thread to ask about the Meta Quest2 rather than begin a new, off-topic, discussion?

Previously I was deterred from trying out VR because a facebook account was required.  Now a Meta account is the requirement which, I think, can be kept totally free of social interaction.  Am I correct in this?  I would want my VR experience to be like playing music on a CD player at home.  No-one tracks me for marketing when I listen to music from a CD and no-one asks me to like, share, join in or whatever else goes on in social media accounts.

That said, I have to admit that I know very little about VR.  Since the Quest 2 is wireless, I take it that I need to be in the vicinity of my router to use it or does the device hold software in memory?   Sorry that this is so basic.  Any software I purchase would be through the Meta Account (I guess) and would I need to log on to the account every time to use it?  Is the Meta account only accessible to me through the Quest2 or through a computer or other device?

Apart from my own curiosity about VR and the desire to try one out for myself I think about the Quest2 as a festive-season gift for a whole family who have been good to me over the years.  Also I have a severely disabled sibling who will always miss out in much of what life can offer.  The family in question have always been dismissive of computer games for themselves or the (now grown) children.  I take it that there are still software titles that would suit these users?  I'm thinking of undersea swimming, immersive visits to natural wonders or cities even fairytale environments that wouldn't involve the fast reactions of computer gameplay.  Such titles would be fantastic for my sibling and would perhaps be an eye-opener for the non-gaming family (who have travelled the world and are all well-read in just about anything).  I take it that a family could share one Meta account?

Any answers to the above ramblings would be greatly appreciated and hopefully be informative to any others who know as little as I do!
