I'm trying to make games for Unity and i work with G8 now and i'm finding that most hairs are the reason why my characters become huge in polygons. Decimating works ok for few but for most, it turns them really ugly because the hairs that are out there for G8 are some high tech Super high poly hairs. It's not like in the past just simple prop hair. It's hair strands and stuff.
So now i'm going back in my account and i had deeleted my G2 G3 hairs from my Mydaz3dLibrary cause i thought i wouldn't need them but i'm downloading them again hopefullyy they are less polygons and easier to work with.
HOpefully it fits automatically all my hairs. G2 and g3 ones. I mostly have G2 ones.

You should be ok with those older hairpieces, but there are still some being made for G8 that will work too. But since they figured out how to use Dforce on hair, more hair sets are going that route. Personally I wish they didn't. They complicate my scenes unnecessarily. I don't do anmation, which I guess is when Dforce hair is most useful, and I don't hang my long-haried characters upside down which I guess it's pretty useful in that case too. But if the product pages should say whether they're D-force (strand-based) or not.
Come to think of it, I don't hang my short-haired characters upside down either. (In case anyone was wondering lol...)
Some artist have very low poly hair. Most HerYun hair, for instance are under 20k polys while most other hair weight hundreds of polygons. https://www.daz3d.com/heryun
But do not expect curls, frizz, etc, with low polys hair.
