Not understanding "Save as Support Asset"
Hi. I'm just starting to learn how to save things in other ways besides Scene Subsets. Honestly I'm not sure I understand the difference between some of the Save As choices - is there somewhere I can go to have it all explained? - but at the moment I'm trying to get a handle on the Support Asset process.
I'm creating a series of straps rigged in different ways, of varying lengths, for use in creating various props. I'd ultimately like to share some of these props, so I'm trying to do this the "right" way. And I have no idea what the right way is.
I'm also using the Face to Face scripts to help position the prop components, but I'm running into a problem. The script tells me it's identified the thing I'm trying to move as a "Follower" even though it isn't parented to anything. The screenshot shows a few things I've tried to save as Support Assets, with different results. Studio seems to label some as a Prop, some as a "Follower?" (What's with the question mark?), and some have no label at all.
So I guess I'm confused as to technical definitions. I know in general what these words mean but technically speaking, what does the programming language behind Daz Studio think they mean?
- Prop (that is, what's the difference between setting my Content Type attribute to "Prop" versus "None"?)
- Follower (how can an unparented item be a Follower?)
- IK
I guess the last question for now is, how is a user supposed to learn how to use Daz Studio beyond just the basic concepts covered in the tutorials? YouTube videos are hit and miss if you have more detailed questions than you did the first time you tried to load an object into an empty scene. For example: On the Tools Settings tab for the Geometry Editor, there's a blue bottton at the bottom labeled "Assign to Target Group." What does that even mean? Assign WHAT to Target Group? Sometimes I'm able to use that button to fit the bounding box where it belongs on the part I'm building (and sometimes it isn't necessary to try and I don't know why), but not consistently - and even when it looks right after clicking that button, the bounding box doesn't behave the way I'd expect. Where do I go to learn how to control the bounding box?
