No shadow options for Distant Light

I added a Distant Light, but in the parameters, there is no Shadow options?
Are there any built in Shadow options, how do I load them or access them?

If your render engine is set to Iray you won't have shadow options. Set it to 3delight and the shadow options will appear.
So I just read up some stuff, and changed the render engine from NVIDIA Iray to 3Delight.
But this now changes the overall lighting render, some materials not rendering and images a lot darker than with NVIDIA Iray.
can someone please point me to some information about rendering engines and what the best settings would be.
I'm not really an expert on lightning, but the Iray lightning seems easier to me, for you can use your real life experiences for your light set-up.
As in real life, you will have rules, like a light allways casts a shadow. Unlike with 3delight, you cannot hide or alter the shadow intensity. And think of it all, as looking through a real-life camera. If you'll set a 100w light bulb in a room, the render might turn out to dark. This is the same, as if you are making a photo with your camera without a flash. The light is enough for your eyes, but not for your camera. As a workaround, you can either set the exposure values in your IRay render settings, or add an additional light, if your scene is to dark.
Yes,
some things related to light are easier and faster rendering.
But there are a lot of other things still buggy in iRay:
- even commercial HDRIs are not producing suitable results (no or only very faint shadows, wrong envi color, too dark, ...)
- the refraction delivered with the iray water shader fails,
- there are really big problems related to displacement,
etc. >:(
Iray shaders won't work in 3Delight, as they are using a "language" that 3Delight doesn't understand. It's the same the other way around.
Also, you do not have Dome default light in 3Delight, so using something like a distant light is a good start.

for 3Delight. It's quite useful and helped me a lot, in especially the final video, which is a quich step-through creating a complete render in 3Delight. The tutorial is for 4.6, though, and hence you will see no Iray options in it.

cheers lee_lhs. I set render engine to 3Delight.
The only problem now are the eyes are not rendering correctly. I am using V5BreeEyesM.jpg as the diffuse image, included in DAZ3D I believe.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?
Ambient, specular or reflection strength/color for any one or any combination of them can cause that kind of glow.
And you have the Eye reflection, Cornea, Iris and possibly Pupil surfaces to look at...
So i'm having a surface rendering issue again.
I downloaded this set http://www.daz3d.com/ly-dominique
But the face surface is not rendering in 3Delight, only in NVIDIA. All other surfaces are rendering (torso, arms etc)
NVIDIA
3Delight
There seems to be differences between the shader properties of the face and the torso

Please help, i am new :P
ok, looks like there is no Lighting Model option. All others are set to 'Plastic', but the face and lips don't have any options
By the surface names it looks as if you are applying the character to Genesis, not to Genesis 2 Female.
