I wanted to mention that he was a personal friend of Tolkien... and I have a distant personal connection: many years ago, my sister was an undergrad at UCLA and working part time for a defunct chain bookstore. Mr. Lee called because he had ordered a book and it had not arrived. At the time, book orders were actually filled by a book distributor called Ingram so people in the store had only a limited sense of when anything was coming. Mr. Lee vented a little bit at my sister and said "Do you know who I am"? She didn't since he was better known for Hammer Films and James Bond at the time so she called me to get his his filmography (pre IMDB). I pointed him out in the Lord of the Rings movies for her....
I shall never forget his wonderful perfomance in The Return of the Musketeers". Rochefort twenty years later.
He also once said that only three times in his career had he worked on a movie set where absolutely everyone was working as a team towards the director's vision. The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Star Wars prequels and Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow. And this from a man who made over 200 movies.

Another great one bites the dust. And Ron Moody as well today. So sad.
He picked the wrong day to die. Upstaged by Christopher Lee again. But I remember him. Loved the way he played Fagin even if it was a musical. Lovable evil.
I jsut watched a movie the other night that had him in it. "Sleepy Hollow" as the judge. Great movie and great man. I've enjoys his movies all my life.
Whenever I think of Christopher Lee, I hear him speaking the GERMAN voice (since he apparently spoke German among a million other languages and thus could do both versions) of King Haggard in 'The Last Unicorn'. It's such an amazing performance, nobody could have done a better job.

So many movies! From Dracula to Saruman.
As a friend said "I suppose that means Gandalf won"

And not forgetting his death metal singing career and, I think, he also did talking books.
The Dark Side was not strong enough in him...
Sad to hear this, Saruman and Dooku were two of my favorite villains.
He gave me nightmares that persist to today. I think he would have wanted it that way.
God bless you Chris

Alex.
The Hammer horror films were a staple of the late, late movie when I was growing up. So many wonderful (but scary) memories. RIP.

No need for words.

There's a very good obituary in today's edition of The Times.
Sleepy Hollow is one of my favourites, as well.
Alex.
FYI, they still are.
I can't believe that Mr. Lee was 93! What a blessed long life!

"Spotte nicht über mich!"
RIP
