Generic Kids Shapes for Genesis 8

I don't know about the morphs for Generic Kids Shapes for Genesis 8, but the showcase picture is creepy. I can't put my finger on whether its the faces, the hair, or the expressions.

Agree, for me proportions are off IMHO, think arms and hands are too thickset just like a mini man.
JoeQuick is amazing but this is not on any of my lists.
Yeah, and in the promo, the 'girl' has a face of someone past her 30
Looks much more like a form of dwarfism than a child body shape. JoeQuick has made some of the better toon figures, but this doesn't produce realistic kid shapes, and the promo renders didn't appeal to me as a kind of stylized or toon figure.
Its marketing rollout has it as a freebie if you buy a bundle of outfits with no overarching or coherent theme. I'm not sure what that says about Daz's or the PA's confidence in the item.
In general, I've never seen realistic results with loading a full-size figure and then radically dialing the body down in size. Zev0's "Growing Up" series can produce good results if you are making a teen or petite adult, but the results get worse the younger/smaller you go.
I have no clue as to how it looks, can't seem to find the product when searching for Generic Kid in the store and you didn't post a link

Talking only about the search issue, is there an issue with the recent updates, where words like "generic" are being excluded from search results? Because even knowing the full name of the product it doesn't seem to be showing up in the search results.
Yes, the face is one of the issues with the female model. And I don't understand why she has breasts... Or if that is part of the weird way her shirt is hanging.
Then in the clay model, the male's shirt is hanging weirdly. Makes me think that the morphs might be causing an issue with dForce.
It's also odd that there's only two sample images, which makes it hard to really evaluate the product.
I wish there were renders with the characters.
I know that the head proportions change from child to adult but the heads just look like adult heads on a mini-body. I agree with the OP ... something disturbing about these shapes.
Hurpling out of lurkerdom to throw in my 2 cents:
"These complementary morphs for the Genesis 8 Male and Female hearken back to the Daz Children of days gone by and do their best to approximate the styling of the Michael/Victoria 4 and Genesis 1 era children."
Well, that explains it right there. When you load up Kids 4 or dial in Basic Child on Genesis, they look incredibly awkward and more like little people than they do actual kids (as seen in the example below of Basic Child Genesis, which is more or less Kids 4). Especially now when we've got Kid figures like all of 3DU's girls (and rare boys), Kayden 8.1, and Angel_Wings' kiddos (and whatever one-offs any PAs have done) or Tobyn/Caryn 8. I'd hazard a guess and say that most of us are so used to seeing characters with realistic-ish proportions from G8/G8.1, seeing something that's basically a throwback to a more simpler age is jarring. I know it was for me when I saw the product. Especially the adult looking heads and the near-Donkey Kongesque arms, wooooof. Not exactly Topsy or Drutherson, but close to the edge there.
I mean, yeah, compared to his other output it's probably the weakest link... but he's making a concious stylistic choice that intentionally throws back to a more simpler (and somewhat ugly, lbr) age and, well... that's his prerogative ig.
Judging by the SKUs of Generic Kids Shapes (70209), dForce Nature Deity Set (64991), and the products in Blast From the Past Bundle (63849, 64267, 64365, 64461, 64829, 67375, 69359, 70699, & 74387), these products were supposed to be released several years ago but weren't. Make of that what you will.
I've bought the Generic Kids Shapes, and intend to have fun using them as the G8 targets of poses for The Kids 4 using RiverSoftArts' https://www.daz3d.com/bone-minion-for-generation-4-poses-bundle - I figure I can fiddle with their heads to make them look less grotesque.
The shapes are fine. The girl does not have breasts, you know they cannot show too much information with child figures.
Clothing is normally an issue with any extreme morph -- try fitting some clothes to Bugga Boo. Additional morphs may be required.
I ran a default setting drape for the T-shirt [notice that several of the clothing products released in the bundle are suitable for children]. The T-shirt loads looking funny because yes the rigging or something is affecting clothing there. Running the drape, rearranged the wrinkles so okay, as is common enough I figure it's just a quick trip to the modeler to fix individual issues. What is curious though is a back ridge that is not shown in my render here of course. Whereas the mesh back goes in on the spine, in the clothing it goes out ... so there must be some morph or something affecting that region too.
In the promo a very adult hairdo was on the girl figure. Even the one I'm using is pretty full for a child's hairdo. A child's hairdo would of course help the figure look like a child. [or one that likes to play with her mother's wigs lol ...]
What is "off" is something you can fix yourself very easily. Make the irises larger and adjust the pupils for the light in the room too. I've noticed some making even adult characters with a lot of white under their irises -- that's not a sign of health ;-)
I was very pleased to have these generic children shapes to add to the morph pool. I'm sure they come in handy, thank you JoeQuick.
Good job spotting those SKUs. Assuming that nothing crazy has happened with the SKUs, the earliest of those products (items with SKUs in the 63000-65000 range) should have been released in the fall of 2019. Weird that they were put on ice or mothballed for that long.
...I have Zev0's Growing Up Morphs for G2, G3 and G8. Those do the job pretty well for me.as they include controls to alter proportions, weight, posture, and head size.
Many years ago I participated in sort of a challenge to create a young character from V4 as there were no gen4 teens or children (the latter finally showing up shortly before Daz 4.0 and Genesis) Did a lot of research using growth height weight and proportion charts. Now that was tough.
Genesis made it so much easier, particularly when Thorne released Justin and Julie5.
I do agree clothing fits can be a pain at times even with Genesis, particularly female clothing that is made for characters with the Daz default breast size. Some times it requres lot of manual correction using the hidden morph projections and JCMs. to get it to look right. Some times you jsut ahve to give up.
Catherine: That's a really good image and sells the product quite well. So much so, it's in my cart now, haha.
Thank you :-)
I plan to spend the day looking through the clothing and making some adjustment morphs, etc.
I've started releasing some of the FBMs for the Generic Girl if anyone is interested. Thread in the Freebies Section.
