I've never paid any taxes in the shop previously.

I just started to buy a Fast Grab promotion - Garibaldi

$1.16 was added to the price for tax.

I backed out of the cart - without purchase

I've been charged taxes in the past. It sort of depends on the laws in your state and how they fluctuate.

I reside in California and my cart is not suddenly showing sales tax. If you're Address Book is showing a valid California address in My Account, you should file a problem report with DAZ Customer Service.

They have not charged tax to me, in NC.

I wish they would. Instead I had to freaking report all my DAZ purchases to the state on my state 1040 and got zapped with something like $150 in retroactive sales tax.

'Course, that's my own fault for spending so much on the DAZ shop. And I would have had to pay it either way. But I'd rather pay it at the point-of-sale than owe a lump sum to the state. I ended up OWING money instead of getting a refund. I mean... again it was just a check for like $50, but still...

I won't go into this very far, because it has political undertones.

Basically, if a company has a physical location in California the state is forcing payment of sales taxes by those companies on sales made to Californians. This is unconstitutional and it will be tried in the courts when there is enough accumulated money damages caused by unlawful application of taxing authorities to interest class action lawyers.

The solution will be for consumers to find vendors who don't participate or allow themselves to be bullied by state taxing authorities.

Or pay it out of pocket for you. Which for mid to large size companies is what happens when they don't charge the tax to the consumer.

California Sales Tax collection was stopped for downloadable products shortly after the new store went live a few years ago.
