Solved - My lights do not seem to be working?
Edit: Spectral Rendering: Spectral Conversion Intent set to "natural" made all my spotlights not render. "Faithful" allows the lights to to work however.
The model is a G8 and the lights and camera point at the model. There are no props, walls or anything.
Tone mapping is on and I believe to the defaults. I have the environmental intensity set to .10 rather than 1 to dim the scene to adjust lights.
In the viewport I can see a spotlight affecting the model. In the render I can not.
Tone mapping and environmental intensity greatly effect the lighting in the renders, but not the spotlights.
The spotlight is on, and set to the defaults or with photometric mode on. I can increase the luminous flux 10x or 100x and see the brightness increase in filiment, but not the render?
Camera headlight is off and preview lights are off.
I have 4 lights pointing at the model, confirmed by looking through them in the viewport.
Not one effects the render?
Kind of makes me think the lights are "off" on some universal level.
Likely a basic setting I forgot...
Thanks in advance.
Comments
The default tonemapping settings are meant for bright sunny outdoor scenes, if they are used without the sun, the lumen values for the lights should be increased 100 fold.
For indoor scenes I set the "cm^2Factor" to 10 and the ISO value to 400
PerttiA, I have one light set to 1,500,000 lumins. The spot light is 5 feet away from the model. You can light a room (in the real world) pretty well with an 8000 lumin bulb.
The light has no effect during render yet the model is blinding white in filiment. It is as if it is hidden or turned off?
Do you think I need more than a million lumins?
However, with tone mapping off the model is bright white, WAY WAY too much light.
With ISO at 100 or 200 you can see the model.
Render. Turn off light. Render. No difference?
Which environment mode are you using, dome and scene, scene only or sun and sky?
Dome and scene.
Infinite sphere with ground.
Draw dome off or on is the same. I have a black background.
Have you tried scene only and checking that nothing is blocking the light?
With "scene only" the render is totally black, even with 1000000 lumins.
Does "dome only" mean the lights are not used/included?
Not really sure how to check for something in the way?
Nothing shows up clicking through viewport options like filiment, smooth shaded, wireframe etc.
Create new spotlight - defaults - aim at model - render - no change?
The only way I know how to turn off lights is manually at each light.
Can't imagine why they do not matter to the render with tone mapping on.
A clue: with tone mapping off and the spotlights at the default 1500 lumins the model is pure white with a pure black background. A part of the hair is rainbow. Reminds me of the alpha channel?
...And the answer is? Specular Rendering is Enabled.
Ok. Not sure I would have figured on that when I turned that on sometime back?
With that NOT enabled the lights work.
However, it can be on if it is set to "faithful" not "natural".
And thanks PerttiA for your support. Your suggestions helped.
Hi all, sorry to be dragging this one up, I've had the same problem - read the post, checked specular highlights - no change. My iray scene doesn't even update when I enable and disable the spotlight. It's like it's not even there. Does anyone have any other ideas on this? Graphics card is RTX3060, 32gb ram, Ryzen 7000x processor, last week it worked fine, I'm sure it did. Today, nothing. First thing I thought was update the graphics drivers but made no difference. Any help or ideas are very welcome, thank you!
