geo editor and surface names any fixes?

Same issue in 420 that I reported back in 412 or maybe earlier.
When you add a second object the same as one in the scene or duplicate an item Daz neatly adds a (2) or (3) etc after it.
Other programs like 3d max say "oh no, duplicate surface names should I rename them and adds default 2, default 3 as surface names.
===
So once again I forgot to rename surfaces before working on a second copy of an object and geo edit did it's oh, well despite the fact that I know this is object (2) if you edit a surface I'll edit it in object (1) too.
Since I've given up this being fixed in the program are there any work arounds, other than manually renaming all the surfaces in addtional objects?

All the iems are pointing to the same assets, the geometry editor is editing the base asset as loaded, so it should affect all of the items. There can be only one version of a given asset. This is behaving as it should. Why do you need different names on two version of the ame item (which will, for example, break materials presets)?
BTW more info on not being able to upload pictures ... tried the gallery .. it shows the image loading to 99% and then says can not save not a valid format.
example item An art deco wall I've built call it scale 20 feet long ten feet high
It has 6 surfaces ... base, base trim, glass, top, top trim back and wall.
this lets me use it as a wall with a glass window like a store or with the glass replaced with a wall
---
In this case I realized I needed a variation that had glass running 50% of the length and wall the rest.
Using the copy I used the geo edit to remove the wall surface from wall (2) in order to replace it with a separate piece that I could control the length of.
And wham bam... took the wall surface out of both because I forgot to rename the surfaces in the two items.

replying cause I didn't look like I wasn't be appreciative or your feedback..
overall it was a bad day for geo edit..
trying to delete the last poly in one surface (no special one .. just the last one --- crashed geo and thus daz
In addition at one point using it it move the surfaces around the blue became green etc.
At this point I'm placing the blame on that defective object
---
And started the mess from scratch and it's going well.
---
one question now that I think of it... In geo select vertices via selection box it's not selecting some that are buried inside the object but within the selected area
sorry, haven't figured out doing pictures yet.
New issue apparently between some multiple saves or who knows what
some of the horizonal elements -- bascially cubes and plains ended with slightly different lengths
is there an alignment setting which can take two objects and align centere and ends ... ie making it the same length?
No, it's because edits aply to the asset that all of the walls are referring to, so they all reflect the changes made. If you renamed the surfaces on one the surfaces would change on the others too. If you want to separate them you need to make them separate assets, with different source files. You could also set up the Surfaces on both so that you could hide the bits you didn't want on one and have them visible on the others - or use groups, turn them into figures, and assign each group to a bone (Joint Editor tool) so that you can toggle them off and on.
Not within an object, no, Align works with entire objects.
I can go back to the original pieces from before exporting without groups

Some objects don't have identical scales --- so just setting them to the same numbers doesn't match them.
---
so it wouldn't actually be aligning as much as stretching or shrinking an object to a specific size
Call it the Procrustian Bed effect.
