So I am a newbie with Daz.

I figured out how to put headphones on my Figure and Make the Head the parent
so it stays puts in various poses.

I can not figure out how to change the color / texture on the darn thing though.

I assume this will help me with changing some shirt textures I will be playing with next.

Appreciate the tips.

Ian

I don't have that installed but I can tell you what to try. Open (if it is not already) the surface window (window/panes/surface at the top). In the scene have the headphones selected. When you look in the surface tab there will be (I suspect) several surfaces. Select the one you want to change and then look at the diffuse setting. If there is not a texture map all you need to do is click on the color and change it to what you want. If there is a map you can try that but results will vary.

For something like a shirt, try finding the lightest gray/white texture map in the set and apply that then try a color over it and see if that works. If not you may need to take it into something like photoshop/paintshop pro/gimp and do a color shift. Or be really brave and try and make your own.

One other option is to use shader presets. They can be used on any surface but may not have the same sort of detail as a custom made texture. There are loads of free shaders out there (for 3dl at least) and some here in the store as well.

    Ok thanks.

Headphones says it comes with 13 textures and a .dsa materials preset so I figured there was a way to get to those easier.

Clearly it is a big app and I am learning where to find things.

Smart content has gotten me here so far,
So have to learn the traditional ways.

If I select headphones in the scene any idea where these textures / dsa presets would show up?

The DSA's are in there so that the textures autoload when the prop is loaded in DS. This means they aren't user-facing, but are in the same directory as the prop. I should note these materials are not optimized for Iray.

    Wow thanks Val.

Willing to step a newbie through a setup?

I looked in the folders and found the new headphone without the logo (_displ)
I then want to make it blue if possible.

I looked in the surface pane as detailed above.

I see several places where maps are used diff, spec, bump, reflec, refrac etc.

No idea what to switch around.

To start click the bar with the three little numbers in directly under the words diffuse color. The pick the color you want and do a test render and see what happens.

    Thanks Khory

I tried this and I go a bluish glow in the red Headphone.
So I changed the Diffuse Color to the blue I wanted and then
changed the file to valHeadphonesNewStyle_Displ and got my desired result.

Probably not the right way, but I am pleased.

    Thanks,

    Ian
