Recommend a low poly grass for background

Hello

I've gazillion different grass products purchased but most of them end up being really bad options for large scenes because of their resource use - and I sort of lost track which of them are actually less resource intensive.

Could someone please recommend me a good product which comes with a relatively large (like 5x5 or 10x10) patch of grass that I can easily turn into even larger background patches through instances. They can't be much larger than that or they will clip through building walls and similar stuff. I'd prefer grass with geometry rather than billboards (do people even use those anymore?).

I can certainly do this with smaller clumps but I find that spawning hundreds of them to cover a scene and then adjusting them by hand is a bit tedious. Ultrascattering still requires quite a bit of manual adjustment because of clipping (unless there's some method in ultrascatter which allows it to avoid getting inside other objects?). Also I'm not sure if there's actually instance limits in DS and I believe I already run hundreds of instances in that particular scene... maybe over a thousand?

Also when I say grass I mean more like wild grass rather than lawn. I can add the closeup details with high poly grasses.

There was this discussion recently that mentions quite a few options. Ultimate Meadow Update?

A few more grassy clumps and swatches:

    G3D-DA Grass and Plant Pack

Simply Grass - Grass Plants and Clumps

Simply Grass - The Rough Stuff

The number of instances that can be used can be surprisingly high. Set Instancing Optimization (Render Settings -> Optimization) to Memory (not Speed or Auto).

Ultrascatter can use distribution maps to control placement. If you like to roll your own, UltraScenery can do just about anything what you want. There is a long thread or two about that one. UltraSceneryXT is for more distant landscapes, but might also be of interest.

Thanks for the links and tips! I've two our of the three grass products you linked to so I'll check what I can do with 'em. I also have the Rainbow Grasslands mentioned in the Ultimate Meadow Update thread and wishlisted the Simple Grasslands Expanse (I have spent way too much this month to be able to get anything else).

I'll have to check Ultrascatter documentation more carefully. I haven't used it much yet. Mostly just played around a bit. I have used masks with Ultrascenery so if they work in a similar manner...

Also, I kinda forgot HowieFarkes came up with XT for large scale landscapes.

    Again thanks for the info!
