OLDER characters load but are invisible

I've been trying to load some older characters into DAZ STUDIO 4.20. They load but are invisile. They are there in the scene window. So I'm assuming the figure is loaded in.

I've attached a screengrab to this discussion.

This figure captured a perfect likeness that took mant many hours to get just right. I'm hoping I can find a way to repair it.

That's an old school .DAZ scene file, and we haven't used that format since the launch of DS4.5, which was about a decade ago.

The problem is that Poser content has never been native to DS, it's always had to convert it into a format it can use, when saved as a scene most thought it was just the .DAZ file that was created, it wasn't, the mesh data was written into the "data" folder as .DSO files, the morphs as .DSD and the UV as .DSV.

Your problem is you no longer have those files in your "data" folder, without them there is no mesh for DS to load.

While it is still posible to recreate those files it will be a headache to do so.

Basically you will need to install a copy of the version of DS the DAZ file was saved in, with it you need to load the Poser format files you used into an empty scene and save it as a temp scene (temp because the scene files created doing this are worthless as you only need thm long enough for DS to create the missing files).

This will begin repopulating the "data" folder with the missing DSO, DSD and DSV files.

  • Holy Crap!

Thanks for taking the time to write the explanation.

Now I have to figure out if thr time to re-assemble the original file is greater than just starting a new rebuild of it.

    I appreciate your hrlp.
