Strange issue with DAZ

Hya all, I have a serious problem.

For about a week I've been unable to render anything; My PC appears lock up about 40 seconds to a minute into the task. I'd just tried experimenting with volumetrics, so I made sure that they were switched off, but it made no difference. Yesterday I left it to its own devices and went out. When I came back 4 hours later I found it had kept working... but crashed after about 3.5 hours. In the scene I was attempting to create, I was using render settings from DA Big Ocean (Sunset Bloom) and Ultrascenery as a test. These are both items I've used before in far more complex work, yet they don't work now. THere was an interesting error message though which basically said that the fault was caused by Adobe Cloud, and to re-install or update AC. I tried that, and it makes no difference, though Adobe Cloud still "Goes Funny" when I try to render something, which is interesting, because I barely use it.

Today I tried using DForce, to find that THAT no longer works either. I suspect that DAZ needs a complete reset, But after uninstalling/reinstalling, my previous settings still come back. Can anyone tell me where the settings are kept?

    What does your log file say? You can find it in the help menu I think.

    Make sure your Render Settigs Instancing Optimization is NOT set to Speed if you are using UltraScenery. The Big Ocean preset might have done that.

    Those relate to OpenGL, used by the Viewport Drawstyles except Iray and Filament.

    What are your system sepcifications, and what GPU (video card) driver version do you have? You might also check the end of the log after an attempt to render - you can open it without restarting Daz Studio by pasting this into a file browser address bar

  • I'll set up a render to get start to finish, though it may take a long time. My GPU is an RTX3060. I've downloaded the latest drivers (Tried both gaming and Studio), and then tried to roll back to previous drivers when that didn't work.

    You could attach the log to your post with the "Attach a file" above "Post Comment" button, and we could have a look.

    If a render takes more than an hour on a 3060, something is wrong or the scene is crazy complex.
    I have an 3060, and usually the renders take less than 30 minutes (Three G8 characters and architecture), one character alone doesn't take but minutes.

  • Actually, took much shorter to to crash. This is the session, again using the assets which have become a benchmark. It's several thousnd characters too long just to post it all, and can't be attached as a file, so here is the part pertinent to the actual render:

    Why can't you attach the log as a file?

    I can see you are using ultrascenery. In Render Settings > Editor > Optimization, is your Instance Optimization set to Memory?

  • Felis, that appears to have done it, thank you :) I don't recall having changed any such setting but I found that the instance optimization was set at speed. Set it to memory and rendering is working fine now.
     

  • Thank you all for your contibutions.smiley As for why I couldn't attach the  log file; I saved it as an .rtf, which apparently is not allowed here. Printed out, it ran to about 40 pages so I'm glad we didn't have to go through THAT line by line. laugh

    Look at the message I posted here hours ago. I suggested that the Big Ocean preset changed you Instancing Optimization to Speed.
