Do you have the latest version of Umbra? There was an update not long ago. Renaming a figure from 8 to 8.1 won't make it so.

I tested the Umbra outfit (not the Samurai) and all my materials applied by selecting either the character (both 8 and 8.1) or the piece of clothing. The only two exceptions were the underwear and the heels.For the underwear and the heels I needed to select the piece of clothing directly. I never received an error.

I suggest writting there. Mostly likely Herschel will reply.

Edit: I realised you posted in the product page before creating this thread. My comment still holds though.

I would uninstall the whole product both with DIM (if you use it) and manually making sure all folders relating to Umbra are gone from your DAZ database. Then reinstall umbra outfit.

...yeah, this hierarchal stuff has caused hold off on purchasing much in the way of G8 clothing and hair as I still primarily use G3 (I have Riversoft's G8 to G3 clothing conversion scripts) .  Actually, hair isn't so much of an issue as I also have both Slosh's UHT2 Ultimate Colour Hair Shaders and Chevybabe's Backlight Hair Shaders. which I can substitute for any hierarchical ones.

I try to avoid anything with "hierarchical" as much as possible especially those that involve materials/textures. IMO, there's no valid reason why I need to parent an item to a figure just to load its textures.

But this thread isn't about this specific product. It is about how hierarchical materials (and same applies to poses) don't work as intended and end up making the customer's life difficult.

If they can't get the hierarchy to work correctly then don't try to sell products for both figures when it doesn't work.

 

Fair enough. I'm curious, where you using the base G8F and G8.1F or was it a custom/character figure? When I tried it I used the base figures.

I put it through the paces with both the base figure and a custom character and everything is working approriately with either the character or the item selected.  I have installed the update.
