What is the Max size of a Das studio library ry

Hi all hope you are all well and had a good weekend. As my DS has just passed the 1 terabyte mark (apart from the morhs slowing down the figures loading) is the a size limit and could I see any problems. Not that I have noticed any so far

Mine is 3TB, and growing. Character morphs may pose a problem because they are read every time a character is loaded to a scene (slowing things down quite a bit), but there are tools to prevent that (TurboLoader toolsets by Riversoft Art).

There does seem to be a limit to how many items can show up under any of the Smart Content categories though.

    I believe it's 250

I just went through an exercise of uninstalling items I don't use anymore.  I have an SSD that is 1 TB and I found I had too much stuff so I am limited that way.

All of a sudden I don't feel so bad about the size of my DAZ library. LOL

Well, I would hope Daz have a machine (at least one) with every single product installed.

    ... So that big!

I currently have way over 6TB running in active assets in the runtimes on my new system, but on my older system I've had over 10TB.  The two catches to that are -1.) as noted, Genesis 1-8.1 figures all slow down horrifically as you add more characters, shapes, and expressions, so I usually only keep a few hundred characters for each generation loaded at one time and periodically get rid of all the superflous expression dials that get loaded with almost everything these days, and 2.)  I gave up on "smart content" a long time ago.  Everything else seems really to be limited only by drive space and file size.

The size is directly related to how much money you can get your hands on and how much will power you have; more money, more content; more will power, less content. It will be limited by how much disk space you can afford. My library is currently about 3.8 TB spread over three 2 TB internal SSD drives.

  • the larger your library the more pain you start running into. from load times to limits in how much will show in the smart content categories.

i find this last thing to be more of a pain than anything. sometimes i want a standing pose, but not sure what pose i want. but i've bought so many pose packs it shows up less than 1/3 of my total assets. it's painful.

then you might be wanting some bits and bobs for the background, but maybe don't know what you want. have too many furniture assets? good luck finding something.

personally, i wish they'd do away with that 1200 limit and let it show everything or provide better searching capabilities.

that's the biggest pain for me and if i could go back, i wouldn't buy half of what i've bought. just something to think about if you're planning on a large library...
