Visible in Render?

Does turning off  "Visible in Render" have he same effect as turning off "Visible" in terms of cutting down render time?  I usually hide all the geometry in a scene that is not visible to the camera in order to speed up rendering.  But if I have to make something visible and can't remember what ity's called, finding it can be a pain.

Yes, Visible In Render off stops the data from being sent to the renderer.
