G8 has become the V4 of the Genesis generations. I bet Rendo will still be producing G8 products long after DAZ has moved production to G9/10/X whatever.
...yeah actually G8 along with 8.1 I believe is Daz's longest living generation. G3 was one of the shortest even though it moved to a more universal weight map model. Don't even see many new G3 items at Rendo anymore. Other than LeFemmé and LaHomme, most of the newer freebies there are also G8.
Renderosity doesn't produce any 3D assets. They sell V4 assets because they work in Poser.
My limiting factor isn't so much the figure themselves, it's the current tech I have at hand. I have a 2014 MacBook Pro with a 1 terabyte SSD hard drive, 16 gigs of RAM, and one of the last Nvidia cards installed in a Mac. Great then, less than stellar now. Between Daz Studio upgrades and Mac OS upgrades, my recent versions of characters using Gen 3 and Gen 8 and Iray environments are all but unusable at the moment. My other machine is a 2007 Mac Pro that can run nothing more than Daz Studio 4.10 without eating itself, and Gen 3 and Gen 8 posing and rendering is glacial in Iray. Add the repetitive genres, it hardly seems worth the effort.
G3 was a very transitional base. Universal UV, but rigging still closer to older Genesis figures.
But even with themes for G3 core characters being the standard selection, some G3 figures never were topped by anything after.
However, Daz is regurgiating themes since forever. It always been mostly modelish characters with some hightly attractive aliens/demons/vamps thrown in between. The generation doesn't matter.
That's only because they're a business that caters to the general public. It's kind of like saying that your local supermarket regurgitates milk and bread and potatoes. If you want fresh frog legs, maybe you're at the wrong store.
Renderosity sells content for most figures, both for Poser and/or for Daz Studio.
Nah, I'll be fine with being able to buy new bread in the old packaging so I can get benefits of both the better formula and the old look.
As long as you're not in a hurry.
...like this?
OK, wrong choice of words: sell, not produce. I think they will continue to SELL G8 long after G8 is confined to the DAZ legacy category, not because of Poser but because there will be a market for G8 for as long as people like me hang on to the G8 investment instead of spending a small fortune replacing all the morph packs, characters, etc. As I said earlier, I don't have much faith in converters - either clothing or characters so G8 will be my main working model until I eventually can't resist the new products appearing in the store. That's how it has been since I started this hobby: I'm always late to the party but that's intentional.
It's possible to manually convert clothing from one figure to other. You need to know DAZ studio well. Manually converting does a much better job, but takes a lot more work. I'm working on instructions on how to do this. Here's the first page.
That sounds very promising!
