Characters for ???

I suppose its here some where but I haven't been on this board for a loooooing time.
I See lots of character adverts for this figure and that figure all based on Gen2. so whats the deal. I don't have most of the characters such as Belle 6 or Lillith 6 or what ever. Nor can I afford going out and buying such figures so will these things work on the base Gen2 or not?
Also since I'm a Poser kinda guy just now trying to understand DAZ Studio where the heck are the body mats stored. Easy to find in Poser and most are jpeg format. Does Studio use some other kind of graphics format?

Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 2 Male come free with DAZ Studio (separate download).
Basically any figure with a '6' in the title, is a morph of Genesis 2 (male or female) Anything with a '5' is a Genesis (original) figure which is also a free download.
Materials for Genesis 2 Female can be found in DAZ Studio Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > People > Genesis 2 Female > Materials and they come in DAZ Studio format (DUF) files. They can be used in Poser by way of the DSON Importer for Poser (free)

To expand a bit...the IMAGES in the materials...they are still where you'd expect to find them...in the Runtime > Textures folder, and for the most part are jpg, but png and other formats are starting to become more widespread.
Most of the figures will work on "plain" G2, but the result will not look quite the same as it would with using Belle 6, Michael 6, or whatever.
If you are patient, you might be able to get the Generation 6 base characters as an extra/reward for certain sales. Like, a couple of days ago, you could get V6 base for free if you bought an items in one of the sales.
Character morphs that rely on DAZ base characters that are not significantly different from G2F/G2M are going to be less affected if that morph is missing than those using a stronger morph. So if you are missing V6 or S6 the character may still look somewhat like that advertised, but if you are missing the Minotaur 6 morph, then any character based on it is likely to look nothing like what you would expect.
Another good example would be any character based on Belle...it would look more like that character's mother, instead...because the scaling/young/size morphs that Belle provides won't be present.
Plus, a good way to create new, individual characters is to dial in some of this and some of that...or dial out some/all of something (someone)...
