With regards to the propulsion and weight distribution of the afore mentioned ‘Bomber Truck’ might I propose a rational.

    • The builder/owner/driver is an environmentally conscious survivor and he/she/they are using an electrically powered vehicle, and with a forward mounted Lithium battery pack the rear fuselage is need to act as a counterbalance for this immensely heavy battery pack.

    • From the various documentaries I have seen on post apocalypse earth (Max Max etc.) all the survivors will be living in desert wastelands so sunlight to power the solar powered regarding equipment/stations is readily and freely available.

    • Free power, endless travel, sounds delightful, apart from the rampage hordes of barbaric mutants of course, but every silver lining has a cloud.

    • Finally, it’s fantasy art folks, live with it.

Control system is valve based with a few hardened chips, maybe a sand battery as recently demonstrated in Finland for long term storage at recharging stations, not too efficient when converted back to electricity to charge the batteries but sand is plentiful and free in the desert.

Ah, the "end all discussions immediately" argument... The problem might be, that some people take their fantasy quite serious. Or their hobbies. Or history. Or life itself. So when someone tries to sell something, using this argument isn't one that I would use...

I always ask players how their characters are dressed and "kitted out" for a mission.

    Depends on the character...

My (dwarf) rigger usually sits in his armoured container (loaded on his rigged truck) wearing ordinary clothes (everything between a greasy overall to underwear and slippers), while my streetsamurai goes out in either ballistic cloth "Tres Chic" suits or full combat gear (military grade) depending on what the mission asks for. And in our (former) group (many years ago) the female characters were mostly played by female players, which kept the amount of "unrealistic und impractical clothes" quite low.

Yeah... Like the back wheel of the motorcycle not actually attached to the bike, or if one made a toilet where the seat opened forward,,,

Except he's publically criticizing products and their creators that never claimed to be historically or even physically accurate. This is like when I hear "her armor is so impractical, how could she possibly fight a dragon in that?"

I like buying fantasy and medieval props and clothing that look like they could have really existed, but I also don't yell about the buildings not having proper time-period shingles when there's a succubus sitting on the roof.

    I dunno...

I used feel the same way about how Bigfoot is portrayed in the Jack Links commercials... first off, anyone who knows Sasquatch culture knows Bigfeet don't like processed meat and they have a great sense of humor... clearly the company found a Sasquatch who is okay with dried beef products rich in nitrates, or uranium or whatever they preserve the meat with these days and doesn't mind making other Bigfeet look like touchy crybabies...
But most critics of the Jack Links commercials always point out how ungroomed he looks, when he clearly isn't your average Bigfoot... ignoring the fact that some Bigfeet have poor personal hygiene just like me... I mean some people... Ignore that, I just lost my comb and soap is real expensive now...
Whatever... anyway, my point is Jack Links isn't trying to sell Sasquatch hair care products, they are selling dried up dead cow chunks, and they are using a comedic portrayal of a single Bigfoot dad living alone in the woods who is perpetually in a bad mood to sell those cow chunks.
There is no need to nitpick historical accuracy and Sasquatch cultural norms, because it's a commercial and commercials are not reality... (Does anyone think banks love you or that your phone company actually cares whether you can receive calls or not)... the same way it's not necessary to nitpick whether Moe was actually trying to kill Larry and Curly with a hammer... it's clear The Three Stooges was about comical sibling violence and that hammer based head injuries can be funny sometimes.
Sometimes content doesn't have to be accurate if it's not being used or sold specifically as historically or scientifically accurate... if The Three Stooges was a documentary about the presidency of Warren G. Harding, then one could be excused for complaining that Moe was using a roofer's hammer instead of Harding's preferred murder hammer, a ball peen.
You see where I'm going with this?
I'm just wondering because I forgot.
Something about Warren G. Harding and Sasquatch I think... Was I comparing them again?
I'm going to have to go back and read what I was writing and I hate doing that because it gives me such a headache...

Okay, I got it... Don't buy dried cow chunks from a mythical man-ape or the ghost of Warren G. Harding will murder you with a ball peen hammer...

    That doesn't make sense...

I'll re-read it one more time and if I don't get it I'm just winging the rest...

Okay... I think this is it...

My point probably was, if it's so far an event that hasn't happened (an apocalypse), it's fantasy... if it's fantasy than all you should be worrying about is crappy or lazy modeling or stuff that doesn't function properly... because as long as the content works and looks good, you determine whether it's something you want or need... and if something you like and want to use, that's great... of course if it's billed as "Warren G. Harding's Favorite Murder Hammer" and it's a roofing hammer, not a ball peen hammer, then you risk incurring his wrath and being accosted in your sleep by a Freddy Kruger like Sasquatch who will dream murder you...

I... Don't think that last part was right... probably.

Also this was about a bundle too... if you don't want or need the stuff in it, don't buy it, unless the price works out for the stuff you want... It's like when you buy an assortment case of Gatorade and they give you six fruit punch, six orange, six lemon and six banana-cucumber-raccoon flavored bottles... either don't buy it because you don't like raccoon flavored drinks, or if the price is okay, just buy it and throw the raccoon flavored ones at people you don't like.

Trust me, getting hit with a full bottle Gatorade hurts and gets a point across... that how my wife gets my attention and it's very effective.

    Anyway... I'm done with this...

If anyone has any questions or complaints about what I've written, please mail me an envelope stuffed with twenty dollar bills for a full transcript of today's comment with an elaborate explanation of what I meant scribbled out in crayon, mostly in the form of pictograms... please allow six to eighteen thousand weeks for delivery.

    Thank you.

No drive transmission in motocycle wheels is quite a different level of impossible. It's like someone designed a high fantasy helmet without any visor. It just breaks internal logic of any model. Something comparable would be if this truck was designed and modeled without any windows or steering wheel.

There are plenty of cases where Daz requires suspension of disbelief and everyone rolls with it.

Why no starships in Daz store have anything looking like control thrusters, most of them don't have longtitudal thrusters? Control surfaces do nothing in space, so how do they turn? I don't know, but I don't care.

Why are laser guns having visible beams? Unless there's a lot of steam and/or smoke, a laser beam is not visible. Who cares, it looks cool!

There's a number of guns named as particle accelerators in Daz store. How comes anyone can be pulling trigger on those without wearing a very heavy radiation protection gear and they don't instantly die along with their target and anyone standing between them?

Amount of radiation coming from colliding whatever the gun is accelerating with particles of air in the room... I mean, particle weapons are sci-fi trope and nobody asks about it. It's accepted.

Why all capital starships have exposed command bridges? It's space, you are not going to fly by what you see through the window, how about you put a critical section of your ship as deep in the hull as you can? Well, because people are used to spaceships being naval ships. It's not making any sense, but people love tropes.

You got to suspend your disbelief sometimes.

Uhm... how about "no". Atleast when deciding to buy or not to buy something. And when voicing an opinion, which is, as far know, a human right. Having an opinion and being able to voice it, even if some others don't agree with it, as long as it is prsented in an orderly manner, which, imho, explaining obvious design flaws is. Nobody wrote "OMFG, it's soooo hideous, I want to lose my breakfast through the orifice I used to eat it!" but people explained why thing the product less than logical and - for them - worth buying. Which should be considered as help for the PA to do either better to reach these people or don't, when the current customers he managed to satisfy are enough for his taste.

So no, I don't have to lower my expectations.

But sometimes the entire point of the product is being over the top and whimsical. It is clearly inspired by Mad Max/Fallouts/Tank Girl and those franchises are ridicultously over the top. It obviously is not inspired by more modern washed-out "realistic" takes on post-apocalyptic, like The Last of Us.

It's so over the top I want a red texture pack for it so I can put a big green ork on it and make it go faster.

I only bought one steampunk product ever for Daz and that was only because I needed the shoes. I dislike steampunk this much. I just accept it's not a genre for me. *shrugs*

Edit: I don't think the Halcyon outfit and the truck were designed to be a part of same set, though. Because the outfit looks steampunk, given the compass and the gears on the forearm. Also, the frills. Superficially, it does look like it was inspired by Fallout up-armored Vault suits. But only at first glance. The closer the look, the more steampunk it gets.

...true, riggers are one of the exceptions as they usually are in their rigger cocoon which is inside a fairly well armoured vehicle.  To interact with the outside they often use drones rather than step out in the meat world unless it's really necessary (like to get a few drinks with the chummers after a job well done),

Much of what I see for female characters in the store here or the other one wouldn't even pass for common armoured clothing in the RPG's setting.  Yeah, it's easier for male characters to look more appropriately attired and eqiuipped for a job than females because of the "sexy" factor.  Even a simple Martial Arts suit for women tends to be more, ahem, "revealing" than the male version.  Never been to a dojo where that was the case.

Here's my little jack of all trades mischief maker and demolitions expert Leela (sans helmet and ballistic mask). Even in a "beauty pose" I try to keep the clothing as close to what she would wear on a job.  No spike heels, no bare bellies, or low cut cleavage, and no neon accents saying "I'm over here".

She also has a suit of FBA with Chemseal and life support as well as a Medium Military Grade suit and a double barrel rocket launcher for the really dangerous jobs in the CZ (still looking for something here or at Rendo that would work).

...for my Sci-Fi story world I worked on many years ago I actually did just that.  The "bridge" (which I refer to as the "control deck") is hidden deep in the centre of  mass in an armoured cocoon on all combat and even commercial/exploration ships.  There are also backups for the backups for the backups.  The only ships with a high crew/person count generally are civilian starliners.  In military ships, automation is heavily used as even in the future (or a long time ago), "space" in space comes at a premium and efficiency is the rule.

Oh, and I don't have another Sci-Fi trope, individual single person fighters that are carried along with or accompany a battle group. Autonomous armed drones take their role as they are cheaper and easier to replace.  About the only place where firghters make sense is for planetary or station defence (I must t admit I did like Babylon5's concept of the Starfury as it actually did use thust vectoring).

Yeah, I know, "boring"  No Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia swinging across a chasm, No single fighter destroying a moon sized space station.  No families living aboard the fleet's flagship.

IIRC speceship battles in the John Grimes novels (and probably also the Rim Worlds novels) by A. Bertram Chandler are kinda based on naval ship battle tactics, which isn't really astonishing, as Chandler was an merchant ship officer, so he transferred some of hies real experience into space, which - for me - resulted in an astonishingly logical modus operandi for all aspects from navigation, movement and even combat. And the novels were also a nice read (even though some things might sound a bit weird when seen in the woke light of modern times).

This is only because he's a good author and can create internally logical setting. As soon as space warfare is based on sea warfare it's willing suspension of disbelief. Good authors can make the readers suspend their disbelief, bad can't, but space is completely different medium. Like, Star Trek TOS had Enterprise designed like it was a large airplane, because the Jefferies brothers had aviation experience so they were channeling their knowledge. But it flew because TOS Enterprise is internally consistent.

If any franchise has starships fighting and moving like ships or airplanes it only works because we are willing to believe the author.

Only the post-2000 generation though, as people before that had the chance to learn how to read something called "books" to fill the spare time in the evenings with an other thing than trying to reproduce.

OTH such clothes might be vital for the continuation of the human race (at least in the self proclaimed "civilised countries"), as without following some standards of clothing the smartphone junkies' mating habits would keep them from being able to find a possible partner?!?

In case anyone is thinking of getting the Halcyon outfits and use the male boots on a female in order to not have her wearing the so common bloody high heels, do not even bother.

I tried to use the Halcyon outfit boots for Males on the default Genesis 8.1 Female, and it crashed Daz Studio every time I tried.

I think the product looks great, if you intend to use it in a 'real' apocolyptic setting, you better hope your audience is clueless about its suitability.

... Then again, are we talking about folks that think bikinis make great armout?

  • OMG! A Bomber Truck! Is that cool or what? Wanted one since I was a kid. It's obvious (to me) that Xivon is an artist first and a technician, second. As an artist and as a technician to a lesser extent, Xivon has managed to get 58 comments and 880 views. Not so shabby! Getting so many opinions is what art's all about. I'll be buying it as soon as the U.V.P.R. (Uncanny Valley Price Range) comes down to my sweet spot. Xivon's art also triggered me to see what else was created and lo and behold, I saw a Monster Worm at the right price. It has been a good day!
