DAZ Crashing on DUF load...any way to edit to fix? Hair problem..

In the most problematic project I've done, now, Daz crashes when I try to load the Scene I'm working on.
Sometimes it loads for a while til it crashes, sometimes quickly....sometimes it will load all the way.....
The problem seems to have something to do with the hair on a character. I was trying to a final fix on it before render, and that's when things started. I've been able to delete the hair in one of the loads and then save, but then when trying to reload it, Or another hair, it crashes again..
If I load, and don't mess with the hair, I seem to be able to do stuff like render to rib, change resolution etc...
I did a "save as" so i have too copies, but it seems to be a problem in the duf, not the duf itself.
I've literaly been up all nite working on this, so this is very frustrating.
Edit: I got it open, and I've been able to delete groups and save as seperate scenes and undelete and save other parts of scenes...
Edit x2: And with everything in the scene but the person not selected, I was able to load the second hair, and apply a MAT to it...(I was gonna not use the original hair..it had a line of hair un the neck I could get rid of thru adjustments, so I punted). NEXT, try to "fit hair" to the figure..
Edit 3x: And it fitted succusefully (and was saved AS)...but I felt it didn't look good on the scene, so I tried loading another hair the same way, unselected, and boom crash.

That's the kind of thing that often happens when running low on RAM...but 16 GB SHOULD handle most scenes (if the specs in your sig are the machine you are working on).
Something else to try...a new scene, with just the problem hair and base figure (no morphs/HD/etc), keep it minimal and simple. If that crashes, then the problem is definitely the hair.
I'm thinking it's the hair/figure....I've been able to drill down to saved states without the figure and it opens fine...
I did a save as pose preset and wearables preset, so I should in theory be able to recreate her easily,
EDIT: yeah, recreating went pretty easy....I had deleted some polygons from the person (g2f) to try to get v4 boots working... (i've been doing lots of geometry stuff lately so I thought I'd try)...there was a lot of errors mentioning polygons and the figure, so maybe that was it...
Then just a series of merges like putting stacking dolls back togetehr.
