Display HDR Backgrounds pre-render

I've poked around but can't find anywhere to do this.

I'd like to see the background pre-render so I can adjust where the character is.

Any advice?

...you have to switch your view mode to Iray. Up in the far right hand corner is a small widget that looks like a ball with a stripe on it next to the cameras menu (above the Camera Cube). Click on the little arrow next to it and it will display a menu of the different view modes. Iray view is the last one.

Thank you VERY much! Can't believe I didn't see that. I appreciate it.

I've tried this in the past and I still do not see the HDRI in Iray view mode. What else does one have to do besides tell it to draw dome and switching to Iray? Is there some trick to this? I have seen this advice over and over but never been able to see the HDR map without rendering.

In the Environment section of the Iray render settings turn ON Draw Dome

    ...thanks, forgot to mention that.

Draw dome lets me see it in the render. I would also like to see it in the preview window. Supposedly this is possible but the only instruction seems to be "turn on the iray option in the preview window" and this does not work for me - the dome still does not appear.

As far as I know the only way to see the HDRI is when rendered.

That was my impression as well, but others here on the forum seemed to indicate differently. That's why I asked.

It's a bit of a pain to have to render over and over again while rotating the image to try and get the sun into the right position, so I was hoping there was a more efficient way to do it than an hour or so of trial-and-error.

I just use the Aux Viewport Window and switch the Draw Style to Iray and rotate the Dome as it renders. If you have any issue finding these just shout an do will do a screenshot or 2. :)
