volumetric clouds help

Is there a resource somewhere that shows how to find and install the volumetric cloud shaders in 4.20?

I see how they're being used but anything else.

I download a .vdb file from open VDB, but when I put it in my shaders folder it's not visible to studio.

You need to apply the sahder to an object, then you can assign the VDB - it's a Surface property.

The shader is in the updated default resources. You can keep the VDBs themselves wherever you want.

"the folders that studio builds during installs"? Have you updated your default resources since volumetric rendering was added? The shader is in Shaders -> Default Resources in Smart Content, and Shader Presets -> Iray -> Daz Volume in content library, IF YOU HAVE UPDATED YOUR DEFAULT RESOURCES, which you haven't addressed yet.

  • May I ask a question? How and where do you add the VDB for clouds? I have found the shaders and added a cube to the scene also I have downloaded a cloud VDB! Cheers

You add the VDB in the surface pane. Without a workaround like TexAnim or ABAS, you'd have to select the specific frame you wanted to use (assuming it's an animated VDB). It's also recommended to change the name of the surface to Volume, if you haven't already, so that you can disable Clip to Geometry.
