They should, the only real differences between 8 and 8.1 is an added material zone for the neck and their own system of expressions (so expression presets for 8 don't easily work on 8.1).
EDIT: Wait, I didn't notice there is a Genesis 8.1 Centaur in the store now. Let me install and test my Centaur 8 with an 8.1 and see what happens.
EDIT 2: OK, I'm having no luck. Hopefully someone else knows a solution. Sorry about any misunderstanding.
It's doable, you just need to rename a surface or two.
Yeah I'm drawing a blank on how to fix that midsection shell surface. If you know offhand Gordig, can you share?
It's an inelegant solution, but it's as simple as renaming G8.1's Body surface to Torso before applying the centaur anatomy. This means that you'll no longer be able to apply skin presets to the 8.1, so you're best off doing that after you've fully dialed in the skin texture to your satisfaction, but it does work.
Thank you, no wonder I was having no luck messing with material settings. Hope it can help Sfaria as well (remember, you need to rename Surfaces through the Tool Settings menu after selecting the figure with the Geometry Editor).
Can the horse part of Centaur 8 take the same textures as the Daz horse 2?
Yes.
Here is a quick test render. (Almost forgot her bikini top! but I did forget her hair!)
The short answer is not really since the Horse 2 textures have no body transition...
"In response to the title of the thread re textures. My experience so far is that no you cannot use Horse 2 textures. Neither can you use Centaur 7 presets. On Centaur 7 the shell covered the entire lower (horse) body. On Centaur 8 the shell is only used at the waist, for the transition portion, so they are not the same. Applying a Centaur 7 preset only affects this shell and not the whole figure. I am currently experimenting with applying them manually but there is something weird going on as manually changing the textures hasn't worked yet. The surfaces arrangement is going to take some figuring out."

It's actually as simple as copying the coat surface settings to the torso surface, then re-applying the opacity map.
edit: I haven't spent a lot of time in DS lately, so I had to go back and check. Here is the process:
First step is to load Horse 2 into the scene, because you can't apply the material preset directly to the centaur body. Apply your chosen material preset to the horse. Go into the Surfaces pane, select the Hoof surface, copy and paste that to the corresponding Hoof surface on the geoshell, not the centaur mesh. Do the same for the Coat surface, applying that to both the Coat and Torso on the geoshell. Switch the UV on the torso surface to Centaur, then apply the HorseTextureTrans map to the cutout opacity slot. Here is a G8.1 centaur wearing HD Dark Knight's Devilish texture:
I stand corrected
I've worked more with the centaurs than most, and have definitely done things with them that the creators didn't intend.
Same.
I never originally intended to use them that extensively, but it's just proven too interesting to figure out what can be done.
My latest experiment has been about how to get a one-piece outfit to work across both the geograft and base figure. (Not finished yet, just a WIP render):
It's proven to be a simpler and more elegant solution than I'd anticipated. (Unfortunately, the one "one-piece" outfit I've seen on the stores for the centaurs wasn't actually helpful to consult, as it isn't actually one piece, but a geoshell covered over with some detailing parts).
But yes, with some creativity and technical knowledge, one can push the figures further than the store content really covers. I've done conversions of a few Horse 2 assets other than just textures - that can work pretty well, given the centaur geograft is basically just a scaled version of the Horse 2 geometry.
