How to have 4.7 and 4.8 installed

OK so I needed to have Daz 4.7 and 4.8 running on my machine and after a bit of trial and error I was able to do it
First you need to rename your daz folder something like DazStudio4.7
Then you have to create another Folder and name it DazStudio4.8
Copy the contents from one 4.7 folder into the 4.8 folder
Install 4.7 in the 4.7 folder and then install 4.8 into the 4.8 folder
You have to then copy the icons from each of the studio versions from the folder to where ever you want them.
And that is it

The only recommended way, is to have the general release of 4.7 and the Beta version (Public Build) of 4.8. That way there is no conflict.
I was actually able to do it and posted the steps on how to do so above.
And do all the plugins work?
Yes, yes they do.
The problem isn't that you can't force them to work...especially if you do somehow make them use separate Temp folders. It's that such a configuration is not supported...which basically means, any problems will probably be ignored by Support...or you'll be asked to return to a 'standard' config or something like that.
Okay thanks ... I'll keep that in mind when finished projects I'm in the middle of right now.
lol ... "no comment" ...
edit to add although possibly I should clarify the humour here ... it was for some C8.5 content which was supposed to work in C8.
It did not all work in C8 because the clever artist had used some kind of reference settings so the answer was to install to C8.5 ... cannot do that with C8. It is is not C8.5 and will never be C8.5 in any of the reference calls for C8.5. Heck of a lot of manually fixing to use that content so it basically sits there in a box all by itself. Nice scene though if/when it ever gets put together to work properly. Presupposing I can guess where something might be in C8 to apply it.
i've run daz 4.6 and 4.7 side by side for many months. no issues. going to upgrade 4.7 to 4.8 tonight. leaving 4.6 alone for a reason.(old plugin)
Any configuration of more than one copy of DAZ Studio installed from the same release channel. (Release, Public Beta, etc.) is not recommended, not supported and in our testing leads to system instability.
If you want two versions, use one release version and one public beta version. This way you avoid all the issues as they are designed to be installed onto the same computer.
The temp files are probably the most obvious and commonly encountered problem, though...but yeah, all the other stuff is not going to help, either...and that's not even getting into 'shader confusion'...
