BitRock installer for Daz question

Hi

Over the past week I've downloaded over 2600 files from Daz. Thats because after a considerable amount of trying I finally got the Daz Install manager to install and work.

The install manager installed the newest version of Daz. And things initially seemed to be working well. But upon checking the smart content. I realized the new version of Daz, found and was showing only a few hundred of the 2600 files downloaded and installed. I subsequently tried to re-import meta data with no luck

Next I deleted Daz and deleted the CMS. Downloading the manual installer for DAZ. This has worked before for me to find missing files as it rebuilds the database.

Now the problem and the question. The bit rock installer has been running for nearly 24 hours. The activity bar has stopped at the following point:

"Please wait while setup installs Daz Studio 4.8 (64bit0 on your computer"
"Installing"
"installing content management service"

The only options are to cancel, the back and next are greyed out.

This is the 2nd time I tried the manual installation. I gave up after a few hours the first time around. What I don't know is. Is it frozen or is it doing something?

How long should I give it before I give up? I'm guessing it might take awhile for the CMS to compile the database of 2600 files. But since the activity bar isn't showing any change. I don't know if its doing anything.

I'm running a desktop mac with the system completely up to date.

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks
Dale

Installing DS won't do anything to index existing fils as far as I know. Only content installed, using the Install Manager, after the CMS is added. If reimport Metadata didn't add the missing items I can't think why a manual install of the application would make a difference. Without more information it's hard to offer any advice - it sounds as if the CMS was actually running, so it is unlikely to be an issue with your security software.

    Hi

I don't have any security software installed on my computer So thats not an issue. Haven't for a decade or more, I'm on a Mac.

Smart content has been a problem for me since its inception. a few years back I posted a message about it. And after trouble shooting it here with a few people. We got it to work by deleting the Daz software and deleting the CMS and all its associated files.

When you re-install Daz the CMS re-installs and compiles a new Database. Its a pain in the Butt to be sure. But it did, in the past, work. Maybe I'm not explaining it right or using the right terminology. I'm not a nuts and bolts person.

I will look at the Macs preferences. But I know its set to accept files from anywhere. It gives a warning usually if thats the problem, saying that the download is from an unapproved source. Which Daz is.

    Thanks

Yea the firewall is turned off, and its set to accept applications from anywhere. So that doesn't appear to be a problem. I don't have any 3rd party security software installed.

I assume you are aware that most items older than a few years are unlikely to have any smart content set up for them, and so will not appear in the "Smart Content" tab. If you have a lot of M4, V4 or even content for the gen 3 figures, the vast majority of these will have no smart content. Given you have some 2600 items, I would be surprised if there are not a fair number of older items amongst them. You can still use the older content, but they will appear under "Content Library" only. Are you saying the missing items are not appearing in content library either?

Since Gen 2 came out I've purchased a number of packages with Gen 2 figures and props in them. These work on my laptop. They are not showing up on my desktop computer

Actually much of the earlier V4 stuff does show up in smart content on my laptop. I've never done a checklist to see if its all there. Anyway. I'm assuming there must be some update to the older files, otherwise why is instal manager wasting my time and Daz's bandwidth to download them.

The install manager has not worked on my desktop since its inception, until a week ago where I found a simple fix that involved changing a file to read and write for everybody. So my entire point of this was to get the V6, M6 and so on working on my desktop computer. Das is still refusing to find them even though Daz's installer installed them

    Thanks
    Dale.

And when you say is refusing to find them, does that mean they are not showing up in Content Library either?

Still, it seems like an odd issue if all works fine on your laptop. Maybe it is also a file permissioning issue if Daz Studio does not have the permission to see installation directories even though DIM can.

Smart content is finding mostly old files. Gen 1 and v5/M5 stuff as well as V4 stuff from that time period. But still not all the files it found previously. It has an annoying habit of loosing stuff after an update of any sort.

And no. This isn't in regular content either. Wish it was. Then I'd have a viable work around.

the installer still is stopped at Installing content management service after 24+ hours. I'm pretty sure its not totally frozen. When I canceled it the first time it proceeded to delete all the Daz 4.8 it already installed. Which in itself is annoying. Since I can't even get 4.8 installed just by itself. Which might get me another work around.

If no other suggestions are forthcoming. I may try installing 4.8 with the Install manager again. Perhaps now that the CMS has been deleted and the data files disposed of I might have better results. But thats a big if.

I could run a permissions check and repair with disk first aid. But thats not happening today. Not enough time.

    Thanks
    Dale
