D-noise fur?

Is there a way to denoise just fur/hair? In this image, the rest of the image looks relatively okay (this is just a draft and not final) but the wolf's hair is still super noisy. I'm really looking for a setting or something I might be missing in DS rather than creating a mask and doing it in post. Thanks in advance.

Also, as far as doing it in post is concerned, when I render with green mat id's for the fur, this is all I get. Nowhere near enough to pull a mask from. And going through the background and giving it mat id's instead is not an option. There are, like, a bagillion objects.

For the IDs you could just render the wolf in isolation and use the alpha channel as a mask (inverted).

  • That's what I ended up doing. I still had to mask out the rider because I didn't want him to be denoised and lose detail, but that wasn't a big deal. I just figured there might be a better way. Thanks.
