compatible DAZ 4.8 / optimized for Iray... still functioning in 4.6 without Iray?

i just saw i13's new product "i13 Modern Loft" - an awesome lofty room that i really need to get.
BUT - the item infos mention following...
Compatible Software: DAZ Studio 4.8 (ok, the shop info text always autoupdates to the latest version, but still, is it 100% relevant?)
Details: A new sleek industrial environment for DAZ Studio, completely optimized for Iray!
no mention that it's not "backwards" (in lack of more appropriate expression) compatible.
i'm still using DAZ 4.6 for different reasons - ofc this also means NO Iray.
even being quite sure this should actually work fine with my DAZ version, i start having some doubts. especially about the included lights.
i wish DAZ vendors would be reachable for questions by pm like on other sites, however asking in the forum is not that bad - this question also applies to similar items from other creators i'll see in the near future.

If it is Iray optimized as it says and does not mention any additional support for 3dl then I would expect the props to load properly, the surface to need adjustment to add 3dl shaders, and none of the lights will work properly.

so... you think that nowadays (in the Iray era) a (still) 3dl compatible item would
- rather especially mention 3dl support
instead of jumping to the conclusion that it
- should be compatible for 3dl anyway as the DAZ default, and additionally for Iray as the novelty, as long as no express mention of "NO 3dl".
bummer. if the trend goes towards most items only optimized for Iray per default, i'm somehow quite pissed off >_<.</p>
then - "need adjustment to add 3dl shaders", how can i "add" shaders? you meant "replace" the shaders with pre-Iray ones, right? i have a huge bunch of them, so except the awful work of finding adequate shaders/replacing a ton of surfaces, it should be do-able, albeit a PIA. btw, how do Iray optimized surfaces render with 3dl? only noticeable with hawk eyes, not so good, or totally catastrophic?
same for the lights - acceptable, light modifications to do, or absolutely awful/not even work at all?

Afraid I vote 'catastrophic' on the shaders--two different systems. If they don't stop the renderer I suspect they'll mostly turn out grey. As for the lights, more of a 'train wreck'. They won't work at all but you can through parameters change most to be compatible with 3delight but you'd still have to change every setting.
urgh. worse than i thought. so from now on, besides awesome products for poser i can't use - or at least not without much replacing - because they use poser shaders or lights that don't work (properly or at all) in DAZ, i have to be especially careful about products made for DAZ3d too. that rocks. NOT. :(
thx anyway ev'one for the heads up ^^
I was just about to ask about this. I had pretty much came to the same conclusion, that it has Iray-only materials/shaders which is a great shame as, for now, I am trying not to use Iray as it makes my laptop turn into a furnace ;) Just laziness really, as I have taken existign stuff and 'slapped' on Iray Uber surfaces, so it's just the same but in different direction and I know more about DS surfaces than I do Iray ;)
I use Poser stuff in Studio all the time. The only thing I worry about is certain figures which are weight-mapped in Poser. Not too many of those.
Edited because I didn't finish....
I do worry about iRay stuff. I've gotten some, but mostly if it's something I want I wishlist it for later for whenever I might get a new PC. I only have 1 Gig of video ram on my nVidia card which leaves me about 700k free to fit a scene in. Yeah, I know I can use the CPU for rendering but3 Delight is so fast for me and what I do that my renders take under 5 minutes to complete. I'm not sure iRay can match that even if it's not a slouch.
So I want to gravitate to less complex stuff to put in my scenes because I don't want to entirely ignore iRay. So along comes Genesis 3. It's like on the one hand DAZ is promoting a renderer for which most people have to count polygons and on the other hand the complexity and polygons of the flagship figures are increasing. Go figure.
Iray is the default render engine now not 3DL.
i saw a thread somewhere with comparisons between Iray/3DL and different Gcards... not that it matters much since my "system" (netbook) is even worse than yours. but i think you have an interesting approach, trying a little of Iray here & there. up to now, i personally made a wide berth around anythink Iray, thinking yeah what, Iray is just some new shiny somewhere beside DAZ usual stuff. seems i'm totally wrong:
go figure, well... better rendering engine that might need a high end system, better complexer figures that also need a high end system, and i'm not even mentioning the continuous planned obsolescence of figure-related products, which you have to either buy anew or buy converters for - i think i figured it: either you can afford to play with the big boyz & girlz, or you can't because ->$$ underflow. anything new under the sun? nope ~
i only hope i can go on using DAZ 4.6, 3DL and my stuff including G1, M4 and many DS shaders for a good while, since i bought items in GB bucketwise for those versions/renderer/figures. and in a far future, when/if i can get a better system, i might join the mile high club ;)
