Victoria 7 and G2 Clothing?

Well, I just want to say this looks good, but all that money I spent on G2, and then all that money I spent on V4 before realising G2 was the upgraded V4... I only started with DAZ and 3D about a year ago. I guess the question I'm trying to ask is, "Can I use G2 clothes with G3/Victoria7?" It's like starting all over again, lol. I can understand the character textures not working, but I hope the clothes work! If so, then I will buy!

    Check here:

Some examples are posted there as well, and probably some other questions you have get answered, too. ;-)

Simple answer: G3F Base figure comes with a G2F clone.
So yes, you can use G2F clothing via the Auto-Fit feature in DS. :)

Thanks, Nadino! I guess I'll be picking this up shortly. As mentioned, I don't mind that the textures won't match, but it's good to be able to use the clothes.

Thanks again for the help, lee_lhs, I'll check out that thread right now. Looking forward to this.

Just know that some content will conform with poke-through and may even distort with posing...

Not unless a PA makes a tool again.

Or you can make your own clones.

Here's some tests of various clothes and hair of G2F on G3F. As was mentioned, most works nicely (even the dress), but shoes are a problem. You can be lucky (like with the SciFi suit), or not (like with the fantasy high heels).

    EDITED those Gs :-)

Should that read G2F on G3F? I love the last one, she is almost wearing something, and the 'Click thumbnail to see full-size image' message is right underneath, unable to resist :)

That's one 'ell of an expensive 'why bother'...(I'm assuming that they are supposed to be sapphires...)

I was aiming for Sapphires, but ended up with blue car paint from the DAZ Iray shaders. :-)

For gemstones, you really do need to use a glass and at least one correct IOR (most gems have 2, depending on the axis)...and turn on caustics...

I bought it! Thanks for the help. It's a really big improvement compared to gen2. Everything I use works well!

Looks like the next generation always has a problem with footwear made for the previous one.

It depends if the shoes were modeled around the figure in the zero pose or the high heel pose. All the G figures have flat feet in zero pose and modeling high heels around a mannequin with a flat foot just sucks, so developers used fancy ways of resetting the zero pose of the figure's bones to fit the shoe in heeled pose before rigging, then undoing the bone changes to get back to the original zero pose. Read this long fugly procedure for details if you want to see how this would work:

    http://www.sharecg.com/v/61954/related/3/PDF-Tutorial/DS4-TutorialRigging-High-Heels-for-Genesis-rev1

Unfortunately none of the autofitting tools can account for that, because they don't have an easy way to figure out how the developer replaced the figure bones to fit the shoe before the shoe was rigged. They seem to assume that every shoe mesh coming in has a zero pose for a flat foot, and if they get it wrong they transfer the rigging with the foot already poking out of the shoe mesh.

Sucks or not, 'best practices' should be model around the zeroed base.
