How to create Poser Companion Files in Daz Studio

Hello everyone I have a question for you all today.

I wanted to ask you about the DSON (Dynamic Scene Object Notation). I am designing alot of things for dazstudio but I need to know how to create poser companion files to be used through DSON for poser. I did attemp to do this by right clicking in the content tab and selecting create companion files but I get an error such as " The following list of files could not be converted because they are of an unsupported content type and/or file extension". However, if i go ahead and choose the file type .cr2 for geometry or .pz2 for mat presets the process completes but the cr2 or pz2 files hardly have any information written to them. If you could give me some feedback on this I would appreciate it.

    DSON is the DAZ Studio format - the plug-in for Poser is the DSON Importer, and the Poser Companion File produced by DAZ Studio is simply a Poser library file with a readscript line that runs a Python script that tells the DSON Importer to load the .duf file. Some PoserCF library files will have had Poser-native materials added to them, but the basic form is, as you say, very simple. The error message sounds as if there's no file type associated with the .duf file in the Content Management System - do your thumbnails show a type (Set, Actor etc.) at top-left?

    Hello Richard thank you for your reply. I have started to make some progress on this. I have tried to recreate poser companion files that are in other product packages and I am about 50% of the way there. My first step I load the item into a blank scene then file>save as> support asset> figure/prop assets. This creates a .duf file that is identical to any other .duf file found in a poser companion file folder on a per product basis. At this point I am suppose to somehow convert this into a .cr2 file for geometry or .pz2 file if it is a mat preset. This is where I experience problems. I can use the new saved .duf file and attemp to convert it to a poser companion file by right clicking on content library with the file already selected and then save it out. No matter where I save the file in a daz or poser runtime the .cr2 or .pz2 files are nearly blank at less than 1kb of information.

    The only information they contain is

    {
    version
    {
    number 9
    }
    runPythonScript "ProductNameHere.py"
    }

    Many other .cr2's I am finding already have that line and then much more information already imbedded in them.

    What content are you loading and saving as an asset? You should do that only if the item isn't already in DSON format - items with .duf user files need nothing done, and items in .dsf format need only a new preset in .duf format (File>Save as>Character Preset for example).

    That is the right content for the PCF - the Python script is run and itself tells the DSON Importer to load the .duf file. Where you see more complex files it's because the maker then added Poser materials, or other information, using a text editor to copy and paste from a saved file - it won't be done automatically.

    Thank you for your reply once again Richard. I didnt consider that content developers were adding their own information in the .Cr2 files once the file was already generated through the poser companion file action. That pretty much wraps it up for me on poser companion files. I had got it right earlier and was still banging my head for nothing. I was trying to recreate poser companion files from other products that already had them and try to do a comparison to see if I really got it right or not. I should have looked into more files and I would have seen where some didnt add information to .cr2 and .pz2 files. Once again Richard I really do appreciate your help on this.
