V7 vs V6 / G2F vs G3F

Hi all,

I'm almost positive someone will have asked this already, but I did a little searching and I'm still reeling about getting the email about it because I haven't been following changes and had no idea that they were moving onto the new generation.

Is there a list of differences that I can find? So far I've seen that it has less polygons and more bones.

Will G2 textures work with G3? Will the clothes? Will the poses? The changes are for improving animation, but how long will we have to wait before iClone supports it?

What advantages does this generation have that would give me reason to begin rebuilding my library again? Please say something like soft body physics or dynamics?

Apparently not. New UVs required to fit the (radically) new geometries

    Will the clothes?

I believe there's an autofit facility, so they'll fit to some extent at least.

    Will the poses?

The existence of this product implies that they won't. Not fully, anyway.

Maybe at some point today they'll fix whatever's wrong with DIM that's stopping me downloading G3F and finding out more...

No, as G3 uses entirely new UV mapping.
    Will the clothes?
There is G2F autofit clone which works as well as any other autofit clone. Boots, long skirts, etc, might be a problem.
    Will the poses?

With many new bones and switch from Triax Weight Mapping to General Weight Mapping, poses will require adjustments and aniblocks won't probably work well.

People report better bends in some areas (neck, shoulders, toes) and better expressions. G3 figure also a bit lighter on polygons so it might load better into your scene. There is no soft body physics or dynamics.

As usual you can expect poses to need reworking, how much is needed I don't know myself.

Clothes from G2 apparently do have an autofit. But you would need to do more work to get things from Genesis or V4 on V7.

Well hopefully the aniblocks / poses will do the job well enough. I know that both V4 and Genesis poses both work well enough with G2F, so we'll see.

    The UV thing sucks, though.

Anyone know anything about the iClone importing? I can't even get G2F in, so if G3 will be supported soon, maybe I'll feel less bleak about it.

There are some conversion products available or coming. Pose converter is in the store and one for animation has been announced here.

Have a look at this for more info on Genesis 3 in general : http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3
