Windows XP browser request for downloading Daz Purchases

My wishlist was building up again and I purchased them all this month clearing out the whole list due to the specials. Now I have to download everything and then transfer all to the Daz Studio 4 computer. So the problem now is, Firefox 52 on the Windows XP computer is no longer recognized by the daz3d website. I can't get the list of purchases for download to show up. I tried installing Chrome, Opera but not showing up in them either. Does anyone still use Windows XP and which browser is the one to use to download Daz purchases?

No, sorry, I do not. However I do have an offline rendering PC with DS on it. My internet connection is with an Android tablet. It does work, so there is a fairly cheap solution in the event of not being able to get XP to work. Do still have to use XP myself for my Mach3 controlled CNC router. Regards, Richard.

Interesting. So are you downloading with the Android and the transferring to the Daz computer? Or are you using the Android as the internet modem connected to the Daz computer and it is the Daz that downloads with their direct connect or whatever fancy way they do these past few years.

I am preferring to download manually. I have my old Android phone browser updated to connect to daz3d. That is how I made my purchases this time. I guess I will have to download with it too. The five inch screen is so small though for this.

What did you use to purchase the items?

I wonder if the current version of DIM will work on XP (can't find any info on the DAZ site).  You could download it with your Android and try, just search for "install manager" in your product library.

I am looking for a browser that works on Windows XP which has a large monitor and a mouse and keyboard. The browser should be able to work nicely with daz3d.com like in the days of a year ago. My phone is tiny in comparison. I prefer to download manually not using fancy DIM etc. If I am forced to use the phone's browser and that currently works when a few years ago it didn't, then that is how I will download the purchases. We are talking about several hundred GB.

I use the android device as the downloading computer, then attach it to the PC as if it's a memory stick. Regards, Richard.

You don't need to install with DIM, you can use it to download the files only and then install them manually.  Much easier and faster than downloading them manually.

  • Ah, I see. I downloaded DIM, I think it is an *.sea and a *.sep files. Both don't work on Windows XP. Also downloaded DazCentral which is 64bit exe and my XP is 32 bit. I guess the sea and sep need to be placed in the program files folder where DS is installed. I have no room for DS to be installed on the internet computer. The hard drive is at most 20GB with only 6GB free on a good day.
  • If I can't find a browser, I'll just have to download with my phone's browser the way Richard is doing it.

I always download & install manually. Have to with all freebies anyway, and freebies make up the larger proportion of my installed content. Also it means I don't run into the problems many seem to encounter with smart content database corruption etc.

Also means I've not had to learn anything new with installation since my Poser 4 days, and that sits really quite comfortably with me.

ETA- I use an 8" tablet, which is about the smallest that's usable for my eyes. They have gone up to £89 in the UK now. Bit pricy, but less than a PC.

    Regards,

    Richard

    You fancy city slicker ;)

I'm too shy to talk about the cool (to me) programs I have on Window 98 SE or Windows 3.1 or DOS 6.2. On the DOS I have CAD from 1995. I wonder if that is before the Zygote days.

...I still have an old notebook with Xp on it.

Used to do all my Daz work on it.  Daz 4.1 back then actually cost real money, like 230$ for the "Advanced" version while the "Pro" version with more features was 430$.so I pretty much stuck with old 3.1 for a while which cost me 52$ on sale (with 22$ in voucher credit applied)   MSRP was 230$.

The .sea and .sep files are for offline-installation usign Daz Connect (in Daz Studio), they have no role if you are installing manually from the zips.

You can download a linux OS onto a flash drive or DVD and run it from that, without having to install anything. some of them are very lightweight-ie 200mb. That way, whenever you want to download something, do bank payments etc, you simply pop the flash drive in and restart your PC. It will boot up into linux, you do whatever you want to do, shut down and you are back to windows.

Not sure where you got those .sea and .sep files from, in my library there only is an .exe file, see screenshot.  The .zip is for installing with DIM if you already have that installed, I think.

Better than that! You can install and run Daz on linux using wine! It doesn't do so well with big renderings for me, but that's ok.

.sea and .sep are offline isntallers for use with Daz Connect, installing through Daz Studio. Applications, plug-ins, Photoshop brushes, videos, and other items that cannot be installed through Daz Studio will not have them.
