tweaked skin color not exporting

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

I changed Vic's (4) skin color inside Studio but it's not exporting - just her default tone comes through. Trying to import (new tones) into Bryce.

did you add a diffuse value to the texture inside of studio. in many programs that does not translate.

  • edited December 1969

Yes. And I've been doing this for years, from Studio to Bryce. Now all of a sudden they made it so it won't work? I can't use Studio for much at all due to all this contrived incompatibility. How can I change skin tone and get it into Bryce? So basic!

Are you talking about an image based texture or a shader based one

I always tweak textures by playing around with diffuse and ambient once in Bryce.

Shader I guess. The Textures dialog... I'm trying to make her skin (but for head) all black to mimic a black jumper. This worked before with Mike. But this won't transfer into Bryce now. This is so basic that there's got to be something I'm missing. I think. I no longer have the bridge between both and as said it's all convoluted incompatibility. I cringe at the thought of trying to get clothing onto any model. I doubt my Studio would comply.

I'm curious, why do you no longer have the bridge?

Bryce 6.1 and Studio 4.6 = no bridge.

I thought that the upgrade to Bryce 7 was free?

Anyway, the bridge between DS4.6 (32 bit) and Bryce 7.1 works fine on my PC.

Last time I checked it wasn't but after work we'll skip over to that page, thanks. So there's no other way with what I have? That's a bit lame.

Bryce 7 Pro was free in Aug, 2010 when it came out, the offer may be different now.

No sorry Jimmy I paid for the upgrade on the first day it came out. My order is dated July 30th 2010

The only time Bryce was free was first of all the PLE which was limited and then later when the software suite was offered free, ie DS, Bryce and Hex. Bryce and Hex later went back to having a price, but a lower price than when released.

I am sure you are right Pam

Mine was the 5th Aug, 2010, and it was billed at $19.95, then that was made -$19.95, must have had a store credit or something. As you say, they were all free anyway for quite a while, about 10 months I think from (failing) memory :)

Yes I couldn't check when that was, although himself "bought" it back then, as his PC is not connected to the internet at the moment, so he needs to use mine until I remember to get an extra extra long ethernet cable to reconnect him from across the other side of the room, and too much going on at the mo to allow him the use of my PC.

So with what I have I can't do this simple task? I was wondering if it would be possible for someone to do this for me if I can't. I could send the Studio file of Vic 4 and you could diffuse it black and send it back or something. Everything I attempt now with Studio leads to a road block.

Sorry, that is not allowed. against the EULA

You want to turn the whole face solid black?

Simple open any image editor, make a new image, 2048 x 2048 (or whatever size the original texture map is), then color fill with the color of your choice (don't use absolute black...use a very dark grey or very dark blue), save the new color swatch as a png or jpg....something like V4face_BLACK. Then in the image slot of the Diffuse color, load that newly created map...no need to worry about seams or UV alignment or anything.

And do that for the entire body. That's a heck of a lot of of maps. It's more like why they dropped the bridge in various versions - and how texture maps don't load half the time due to further non compatibility. All by, um, design.

No need to open an image program, just use LIE, add a layer and set the color for layer, no loading of image file.

Actually, since most textures use the same size map, 1 solid color map is all that's needed...

And I thought black may be a problematic color in LIE...isn't is the default 'alpha' color in LIE?

Here are 8 of the most common sizes used for DS texture maps...all solid black.

Well thanks for the replies. I'm not that experienced as you can tell. I'd get an outfit for Vic 4 but am sure I'll have further complications. So I want a diffuse (whatever) black "jumper suit" up to the neck. But I'll make another file with her as same but with a white face as I'm making a (black) mask. What's the easiest option? Maybe I should just upgrade to Bryce 7 and get the bridge back doh.
