Is Genesis 3 compatable with Poser Pro 2014?

I know this is probably not a popular question here, but Poser is my program of choice. I do see all the great things that is in Daz Studio 4.8 but since I have almost a terabyte of Poser content that I paid more than enough for to buy a pretty sweet new car (a huge percentage bought right here), I do feel its a valid question.

Anyway, I did see that the compatibility listing for Victoria 7 had only Daz 4.8 in the Compatible Software but it also listed a DSON Core Installer. Unfortunately I have had issues with some content that listed this way in the past so before I invest in yet another model I want to be sure that I can use it in Poser with my other content.

Any help would be appreciated

No it will not work in any current version of Poser.

And BTW, 90++% of all that Poser content IS perfectly usable in Studio.

Thanks for the reply and confirming my suspicion. I do appreciate the answer. And thanks also for the information on reusing the content. I did realize that before posting and it wasn't my intent to mislead others that might read this. As long as you brought it up, how easy is it to reuse? Certainly the content from this site is ***very*** simple to reuse with the Daz Install Manager. I could dimply have it reinstall everything for Daz., but is that even necessary? Is it as easy as pointing Daz 4.8 to my current runtime as an alternate library?

In all honesty, I did try Daz Studio early in version 4 and didn't like working with it. It wasn't a feature issue. It was easier for me to use Poser. I know that Daz is much more cost effective and when it comes to human models they are head and shoulders above anyone else I deal with. Even through I put boatloads of my spare money into this hobby, I don't have nearly the time I want to do the things I want in it which makes becoming proficient in a new program a more daunting thing than I am willing to deal with without a very strong reason.

    Thanks again

Yes one can point D/S to the Content where it is, no need to reinstall everything. May wish to download/install any companion files for D/S though.

I have PP12 and was able to import in the Genesis 3 .obj file exported from D/S [Poser setting WITH "collect all maps"]. Have to tweak the materials some of course and save out Poser mat files but it is doable that way for stills or statues.

Basically, the new Poser weight-mapped figures are what won't work...and dynamic hair and clothing (Cloth Room).

But as was mentioned above, there's no need to reinstall. just point and shoot. If the content didn't have Studio materials, then you'll need to tweak it.

Don't get muddled up with the DSON Core installer. That is the basic DS file

Poser needs the DSON importer and a Poser Companion File (CF)

So anything that just has a DSON Core Installer is not set up to work in Poser

There is a discussion on G3 in the Poser forum:

Its an interesting thread. Here is my basic stand on it: Sooner or later Smith Micro and Daz will make nice and Genesis 3 will get a working plugin in the next major Poser update (my guess, not substantiated by any news; just the way things have been in the past). I'll wait for that before hacking libraries. For those with the pioneering fortitude (and foresight to backup regularly) who blaze that trail, my appreciation & respect go out to you.

As it is, I've just started loading up big time on Genesis 2 content over the last six months and haven't even created new characters in it yet. Now its obsolete (Literally laughing at myself right now, but that is reality). My main hold back on Genesis 2 is I wanted to import the characters I have and just never put the time to experiment on it. I know that people have done it, but it seems I never have the time to get to it.

G2 isn't obsolete. It'll be a few months to a year before G3/V7 has the library of content making it worthwhile, based on historical observations. Some few PA vendors had a preview of G3/V7 to work with so they could get content in the marketplace at launch, but most of that's conversions of G2 stuff, so aside from the base figure, you're not missing anything.

I've got roughly 45 different G2F figures and a ton of accessories (clothes, hair, textures, etc) and they're good quality products, so unless you're a content creator, there's no rush to go with G3 IMO.

However, as a long-time Poser user, I am slightly disturbed that G3 doesn't have Poser compatibility. But it's not like no one saw this coming.

While Studio's interface and functionality are different from Poser, both have their strong points. Studio just has a more user-hostile interface - in Poser, you put a figure in the scene and put clothes on it and hair on it and accessory props on it and click "Add to library" and select the scene elements to save and you can load the whole shebang into a scene at a later date. With Studio, there's some sort of satanic ritual to do that which I haven't figured out yet, otherwise you just get a naked hairless figure. Surely I'm simply overlooking the option that says "add figure to library". Maybe it's buried. Maybe I have to buy the tutorial or plugin for that. Who knows.

But if you intend to work with G3, get jiggy with Studio and an I.V. full of sedatives.

And I suppose you dislike Blender, too? :cheese:

Save Scene Subset; Save Character Preset, Save Wearables...and several other ways to save partially to fully set up characters to whole scenes.

Don't get me started on the immeasurable level of hate I have for Blender's interface.

Ok, so Scene Subset works. Thanks for the help.
Saves it under Unassigned. Why? Nevermind, the reason is probably enough to make me nuke Utah off the map.

Of course I can then relocate it to Figures/People, but the point is: I shouldn't have to move it. It's a figure. It goes in Figures.

    Poser wins that round.

And cars are people too? So are clothes?

The big thing for it to actually save it somewhere other than Unassigned is to have Smart Content server running.

Once it has hair and clothing it is a scene. Stop using stupid Smart Content and use Content Library instead and you will know exactly where you are saving it to.

You ever notice that things that Smart as part of their name, usually are far from it...unless it's 'what you say after banging your head against the wall...'Ow! That smarts..."
