I just heard on the news! First Bill Russell, now Nichelle Nichols. Two leaders in their chosen professions.

    This is such a shock.

That a basketball player is someone I remember when I never followed the sport, speaks to the man's reputation and excellence.

Nichelle, what can I say? As I watched those first episodes of Star Trek in the 60s, I saw a lady that I wanted to be like. I so wanted to fly to the stars. The best I could do was join the Air Force. She was my hero, then an always. And always a lady.

...just saw that on another thread.  Very sad.  She was probably the best ambassador we had for the space programme.

broken heart Never can replace her. Others may play the role and very well at that, but she will always be the best. Much loved, sadly missed. Forever Uhura.broken heart

I worked with Nichelle Nichols in Hollywood.  I was a sound engineer at A&M Records.  She was a lovely lady and I always enjoyed our time together.

I've been all over Facebook, and I've not seen this. Wow... It's been a tough week. Losing David Warner, Bernard Cribbins, and Nichelle Nichols... My head (and heart) is officially done in. broken heart

...and though not many here are into sports, just saw that legendary basketball player Bill Russell died today at age 88.

Oh that is sad. She was always so convinicingly professional as Uhura on Star Trek. Tony Dow, Bill Russell, and other well know classic entertainers dead this week too. Facebook presents a similar challenge as you reaquaint with a lifetime of friends and kin and some of their friends and kin and before you know it your timeline has illnesses and deaths far more frequently then was typical for a social circle before Facebook came around. Quantity doesn't really cause the upset to diminish or one to get used to it. It's sort of rough this social media.

Another one gone, that leaves a gaping hole in this world.
On the other hand she made a difference, most likely had a good life and was just a kind and lovley person.
I think, I'm gonna watch some TOS episodes tonight.
    Salut grand dame Nichols
