Changes in the look of decals in version 4.20

Hi all,

I'm using Iray GraffitiWorx from KindredArts and I've noticed changes in the looks of decals. It seems to depend on the material of the item to which they are applied to, but sometimes the changes are noticeable. I've attached an example. I do not know what to make of this, is this because of the changes in the iray engine?

  • larger images and perhaps put both of them side by side in ps or such so the changes are easy to see?

Here is a second example with larger images. It always affects the borders. On wood, I haven't seen differences. Stone and metal so far.

I looked closely at a couple in a paint program that can use layers, and there appears to be a little bit of feathering on opacity maps that does not blend in with the background surface on v4.20(.0.17 beta), but rather makes a noticeable grey border around the edges of the image. Comparing to v4.12, there are no artefacts on the decals, clean blending around the edges.

  • That's the reason I have versions of daz back to at least 4.8 scattered on multiple drives.
I have a bunch and it's on my "todo" list the one 2033 or somewhere along the line.

Is it possible to check the original files (not rendered ones) and see if there's any fix at that level.
Is it possible to render the wall and then render the decal and combine them in PS?
    ---
Or if it's a background... just render the background in 412 and the figures in 420 ... it's not a people decal is it?

  • looking at the second set with the gold letters with the black age and then the white border... what if you took that white edge off the decal before rendering?
It's hard to picture taggers painting background clouds and then writing the graffiti.
If's it's supposed to be painted on the background does it need to blend into the wall?
