Though I wasn't sure whether he was saying it would have Iray curve support, or a streamlined path to geometry hair - I read it as the latter, but I wasn't then aware that Iray did support curves at all so that may have been my expectation interpreting the words.
From what I read linear segments and cubic curves with a uniform knot vector are supported by Nvidia Iray but I think the curves will be translated into geometry for rendering so we have to see what they come with

Basically, both programs need to expand curve support...because right now neither is speaking the same language.
