Could you be a bit more specific or provide some images so we know what figure, character or product you mean? Also, is this in DAZ Studio and if so, what version and what OS are you on?

Moved to Nuts n Bolts as it is a technical question rather than an art question.

It sounds like DAZ Studio, and as if you are getting an error for missing .dsf files. Most likely that is because you have not installed the Starter Essentials pack for the figure you are using, or because you installed manually rather than with the Install manager, or because you are not using the default path and have not synchronised them between DAZ Studio and the Install manager. As Cris said, please give us more information on what you are using and how you are installing.

Hi! Sorry, if the solution to this problem has already been posted. I have looked through several pages of the threads and haven't found it, so I'll just go ahead and share.

So here it is: I really want to do some work with human figures in DAZ 3D, but am having troubles installing it/Genesis/something else (I use Win 8.1 64 and here's what I'm trying to install). After being overwhelmed by te amount of things you have to download and put into the right folders, I decided to use the Install Manager. I let the IM choose the destination folders, since I had heard that choosing different pathways might cause problems. After the installation completed I ran the program and tried to open a human figure (there wasn't one on display by default). This is what I got:

After de-installing and re-installing all of the above-mentioned stuff numerous times I then decided to install all of it on a different drive recreating the folder names, because I figured that the problem might still be the wrong path. As I don't own an English-language version of Windows, the pathway "C:/Users/Public/Documents" looks a bit different. Nevertheless, the system recognizes the names of the folders as their English counterparts and wouldn't let me create a path precisely like that on my C drive. I admit this was a wild guess, as I've never had an issue like that before.

Here is what I went with:

Still, the problem with missing files remains. To try and approximate what the issue might be I tried running some of the files from ...Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library/ . This is what I got after running one of the files ("Ready to Render - Barefoot Dancer.duf", had to run it directly from the tutorial folder, as running the tutorials from the DAZ greeting screen is not possible):

and after clicking "Skip" a couple of times the list of missing files:

    and the final outcome:

The thing is, these files (some of them, at least, haven't checked all of them) are on my computer, but under different paths. Take the first file that was reported missing. I found it here. So, I'm guessing the folders are all messed up and I installed them wrong..? But then, why did the Install Manager suggest these pathways in the first place? What am I missing?

    I'd greatly appreciate help!

If you installed to your F: drive you need to tell Studio that.  In Studio in the Content Library tab right-click on DAZ Studio Formats to add the F: drive path, do the same for Poser Formats.  You should also use diffent folders for 64 bit and 32 bit programs in DIM,  "Program Files (x86)" is the standard for 32 bit.

  • Thanks a lot! I have only changed the DAZ Studio Formats and I think it's fixed now. You have made my day, as I've been at installing this software for 9 hours now :)
