Iray stupid Q

Hello!
Admittingly I'm still a noob when it comes to Iray. Haven't got the time to experiment around enough.
But I've found that the only way to get coloured and directed light is to add your scene inside of something, like a skydome or a containing box. Is it possible to do that "without" the box or making the box invisible? To aquire a transparent bg. (I tried setting ubermaterials and then switching phantom=off but it didn't work - phantom seems to be irrelevant with Iray)

If you are usign an HDRI for light, in the Render swettings, Environment category there is (o should be!) a Show Dome check box, which will toggle on and off the visibulity of the HDRI whilst allowing it to still add light.
Herakleia, I'm not understanding what you try to do (sorry, non English native speaker here!).
If you just want to change the color of the light, you can control this using "Temperature". The higher the temperature, the more bluish, the lower, the more reddish the light.
You also can use the good o'l "Colors" to give it a different color.
Or are you talking about Godrays?
No, I'm talking about good old daz-lights - spotlights, pointlights, distant lights. I usually add different colours to them using the colourbox. And it works fine with Iray when boxing in the content. But not when having an open end.
Then - Simon, I don't know what a HDRI light is. Is it one of those new Iray-lights?
Things such as these
Okay - no, I never bought these. The look interesting, but I imagine for another day when I get paid again ;-)
I guess I'll try temperature, see what I can make of it.
Here's a list of sites that have free HDRIs that are very usable in Studio...

They are just image files and don't need to be specifically put anywhere (although a folder in the Textures folder will work very nicely). They will also need to be loaded manually, as not presets will exist.
